Day 75: A Wet Walk and CPR🌧☂️
I guess we all knew it was coming so I waterproofed up for a nice long walk around the lanes with all three this morning. Was out for about 1.5 hrs and we managed to avoid too much rain until about half way around. We mixed relaxed heeling with just being free to explore out in front. No drama, we had a lovely time. This afty/evening we had another wet walk around the field by the river so lots of opportunities to sniff, stretch and relax. All very good girls. Also a few nose-in-the-yog-pot for muzzle practise. As agility was cancelled Debbie sent us a bit of wet weather homework which is an exercise called CPR. Essentially the dog performing CPR on a raised platform. I'm not actually sure why 😂 I kind of assumed it was general strengthening, balance and brain work, and hopefully not leading to mouth to mouth resuscitation because I've seen the s**t Aster likes to eat and I don't subscribe, even if I am unconscious and not breathing, thanks.

@Matt Poulter ditto! Safe space to admit that for sure! 😂 Not sure if it helps, but whenever that’s happened to me I just try and tell myself “they're strengthening my immune system” in my head (on repeat like a crazy person) to try and make it less disgusting 😖😅🙃
Day 74: Work, Play, Search
Aster came with me to work today down at Heligan so a few dogs on leads passing and she had to stay on lead all morning hanging around on the riverbank which is easy peasy for her. She was ace. Rewarded her after dropping the van off at the office by taking her to the village sports fields and playing ball interspersed with some "around" (the football goals!) Barking, backing up, spins, heeling, pixel middles and sit/down. She loved it and gave me lots of energy. I thought she'd be done after that but seemed keen to do stuff when we got home so we played around with article search-and-retreive plus distanced starts helped by pre-macked food. She has been v energetic today, so glad she is back to her usual self!!❤️

This is so cool to see! I wanna get Moro into agility and we’ve been doing directional work and movement puzzles in the house before I get the outdoor equipment. I’m so happy for you guys! Aster so pretty and has such a lovely temperament! Thanks for sharing the video of her training! That’s awesome! How old was Aster when you guys started doing equipment work? (If you don’t mind me asking…) Like everything dog related I’ve heard mixed ages to start at and while I don’t want to rush it, I don’t want to miss the mark and wait too long either…

@Holly Pearson I appreciate this!!! I worry about her joints because she loves jumping over and onto things I don’t want her to… We had to move our couch against the wall because she kept trying to play spiderman off of it… THEN she started launching herself into the back support part treating the whole couch like a catcher’s mitt 🤪🙃🤦‍♀️ All this to say: thank you for the reply because I was hoping to get started on movement games that are safe but can guide her down the agility path. Someone said wait until pups are 18 months (nobody here) to show them any equipment and I was scratching my head at that. I mean, yea, don’t throw them in a ring with EVERYTHING but walking through hoops and over poles that are flush with the ground seemed like it would be good for them for exposure at the very least 🤷‍♀️ at least that was my thought trail…
Moro’s Journey: Day 6
I am a bit of a 🐇 getting back into the daily posting but had a major wow day- Moro girl made me so proud! 🤩 We went on a hike along a section (like 5k) of this 50 km trailhead. We did an out and back style hike. I’m “extra” and typically like loop style where you don’t have to turn around, but this place is really nice so I didn't mind it. It actually was probably better for her seeing everything twice to get her used to the area a bit more. We even found some bleachers to check out. After the hike I took her to my work. It was my day off and I wanted to desensitize her to the sights and sounds of the shop a bit. She did SO good with all of it! On the hike she hardly barked (when she did it was more like a hushed “brrr-oof” curious bark than her full blown “GTF OUT” reactive bark) , and that was even when other dogs were barking at her! That made me very happy- but what sent me over the edge ecstatic was when she was laying at my feet at work 😍 I was chatting with a coworker friend and a customer came over and pointed at us asking, “How do I get my dog to act like THAT!?” 👀🐺😎🤩🙌 I almost had to make sure she was talking to ME because Moro’s still a puppy at just under 10 months. So I was NOT expecting to hear that since I’m in the ‘we have lots to improve on’ mindset rather than the ‘I am confident in her behavior’ mindset. At the same time, it’s all about perspective and Moro was behaving very nicely! I was so proud of her! 😍🐺🥰 Plan to continue leash pressure training and strengthen the emergency whistle recall with some liver treats I’m making today, but that’ll be another post. She’s been doing pretty awesome with the vibration setting and the tone I use for distance recall emitted from her e-collar, but wanna keep the whistle work short and sharp. Good Friday indeed! 👏🐾🫶 I hope everyone has a beautifully blessed weekend! 💖

@Holly Pearson thank you! It felt so good for her to be recognized by someone as a “good dog”! My boss keeps calling her a “ငr@ငk head” whenever I talk about her because Moro’s a Malinois and I guess they’re all crazy in her mind. 🙃 Come to find out she has said how great Moro is doing- not to my face mind you, but to others when I’m not around and I get to hear about it through the grapevine 😒 But I just found out this past Monday that my boss’ last day is a week from tomorrow, so the toxic judgement days are single digits now 😎
How much do you exercise your dogs? 🏋️‍♀️
How often and for how long are you taking them out? 🤔 I think it will be interesting to compare.

It’s heating up in Florida now 🔥 so I like to wait until the evening to do our walks so I don’t feel rushed. We have been walking about 2 hrs with all the stops and letting her check out the new things. During the day we’ll do training in the house and backyard or just sit in the shade out front to keep her from getting bored. I can see myself moving somewhere cooler just to have more outside time all year round with her 😅🥶🤔
Moro’s Journey: Day 5
Today we did some off leash recall outside in the fenced in backyard. There were plenty of scent distractions from a couple of rabbits that have been scooting under the fence and leaving little “treat” piles in the plant beds.😅😒😂 Luckily Moro did really well to listen to the “leave it” and come back to me today. Moro has picked up the newer habit to recall back to me whenever she hears me say leave it and is more than 3-4 meters away (this yank knows metric! 😂😎🤪) She really started doing that on her own and I don’t mind it at all. I can see it being helpful down the line when we get more into long line training and heaven forbid she gets at something I can’t see/she shouldn’t have. I also just watched the emergency whistle recall video this evening. I must say that was so cool to see and be able to have add into my toolbox! I’m excited to start building the value of the whistle soon! I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have a few command behaviors (stacked or solo) that get her back to me, as long as it’s not confusing and I’m not creating multiple names for the exact same behavior, but I’m sure this mindset could be debated. I’m not saying to have 25 different recalls, but a few different command behaviors that get her over to me for different situations could be very helpful. 🤔

@Nick Benger the emergency whistle recall training is a genius yet simple training method. Thank you so much for putting all of this together. I know your training has kept many dogs safe and also out of shelters. This practice is awesome bc I already had to switch her recall command from “sur moi” to “ici” because someone (ty dear husband) would just say sir moi over and over whenever we were outside and it became white noise to her. She’ll come to it once in a while now, but we had a talk about “testing the training” vs “training the training”. So now I can work on this for ONLY emergency situations. I really appreciate all the resources you have put together for this group! 🙏🙌💪 it’s nice to be able to include my guy saying “the dude from the show on amazon prime says… “ and it’s not just coming from me! 😂😅🙏
