Pre/Post Practice Habits
Many players show up 2 minutes before practice, put on their shoes, jump right into the fire, and leave as soon as practice is over. Others arrive early and stay late. Showing up early and staying late can consist of a stretching routine, extra shots, etc. Showing up 15 minutes early and staying 15 minutes later can add up to 2-3 hours A WEEK of extra work. What are some habits you see the best players doing pre/post practice and training?👇

I like to see the leaders on my team ask teammates to stay and shoot with them for those 15-20min after practice. Good for team chemistry. Challenging my leaders to do it with everyone on the team at least once.
Wasted Time
What's one thing you think youth coaches spend too much time on in practice? And what would you spend more time on instead? For me, it's endless/thoughtless conditioning at the end of practice! 👇 Let's hear your thoughts.

3man weave or pattern drills like this. If coaches want to use them as a quick warmup I’m fine with it. But I’ve talked to some coaches where they see these pattern drills as skill development

How you would train a player in YouTube 1v1 space? I keep up with the scene and watch a lot of games, but just curious how you would approach it
What is one thing you would remove from youth basketball and one thing you would add?
If you could remove one thing from youth basketball and add one thing — what would it be? Would you change: - The focus on winning vs development? - Early specialization? - Playing time decisions? - Skill development opportunities? - Coaching education? - Something else?

I would teach spacing more and teach memorizing sets less. Then by default your offense becomes skill development.

I’m gonna try some a new progression this year. 4v2 lava, the first rule is you can’t catch the ball in the midrange. The mid range is lava. Then once they are comfortable with that I will add every drive and kick has to be a 2out (drive, kick, and one more), next rule is the curry rule which is after you drive and kick you have to relocate to space in 2seconds or it’s a Turnover. Then the last rule I will add cutting. You can only catch the ball in the lava on a direct cut to the basket. Preferably off a drive. Then the next progression would be to play 4v3 and then 4v4

Xs & Os
I’ve been really locking in on my Xs and Os and Principles of Play lately… curious Where do you study the game?

I like watching Doug Novak’s teams. I like his Spacing and how all his actions flow together seamlessly. I first heard of him when he recruited me out of high school. His offense was playing out of concepts and different formations, and not plays. He was doing this before it was trending like today.
