Newton's Third Law of Copywriting
For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. Did you think that's just physics? Oh no, it applies to so much more. There is a cosmic reaction to everything we do. And I know that sounds like some woo-woo mumbo jumbo, but only people who are out in the world, doing things and making stuff happen, know it from experience to be true. Take entrepreneurship for example. You're a copywriter, so you're an entrepreneur. At the very least, you're entrepreneurial. You want people to hire you. You want them to pay you premium rates. You want them to pay you in advance and on time. You expect them to know and respect the value your skills. But you don't invest in your business or your skills. You don't value the skills of copywriters more experienced than you. You expect everything for free. And if and when you do invest, you invest the bare minimum. Here's a perfect example of what I'm describing. People who spend the bare minimum, $1, on The Business of Copywriting, which is a pay what you want course. The amount you enter during checkout is a direct reflection of the value you place on your own chosen profession, and on your own confidence and competence. When you say “The Business of Copywriting is only worth $1”, you are indicting only yourself. And this doesn't just apply to spending money. It also applies to the time you invest improving your skills, in trying to get clients. 10 outreach messages a day, quitting after 5 days. Watching endless YouTube videos instead of a daily practice of “read a piece of copy, write a piece of copy, come up with a big idea.” For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. And at whatever stage your copywriting career/business is, that is where you deserve to be. Because that is where you want it do be. For if you wanted your life to be any different, you would have already acted to change your situation.
