Video fun
If you slow the videos down to half speed, everybody is drunk teaching.

I usually play them at 1.5 so everyone looks like they are on 10 espressos by 9am.
Remember to Make Backups
I was just getting started on a mix for a contest: organizing tracks, setting up buses, doing some basic track cleanup, etc. I had been saving my work regularly, but not as separate backup files. Then I either found a bug in my DAW or fat fingered something, but my project file got corrupted. Sigh.... So I decided to start over. There went an hour of work. I tried to reproduce the issue to no avail. All worked fine on the second go. Not the end of the world considering I was just getting started on the mix and it wasn't for a client. Backups are free and easy. Don't forget to make them as you go (just in case)!

I used to be a graphic designer and was building a 32 page monthly community magazine for a client. One month terror struck. As they walked into the office to approve the final layouts and I had the last two changes to make - my hard drive died. The deadline for going to print was two days away. Luckily I had most of the graphics backed up but the layout and a lot of the graphics were gone and all I had left was the laser printed proofs. 37 hours no sleep and minimal food but I got it finished and to the printer. If you’re making a New Year’s Resolution let it be “I will have a real time backup plan in place in the next two weeks. Best I’ve found is having Dropbox and having all my project files in the Dropbox folder. That’s where I did the work from. Plus I had a backup drive on my computer using TimeMachine (Mac) plus a NAS raid to backup to weekly.
What DAW Do Y'all Use?
I am curious to find out what DAWs are being used. More importantly, does the DAW matter more than the skill put into using it? I personally use Cakewalk.

Mixing mastering feedback please
Hi just hoping to get feedback on this mix. I’m not sure if I should mention some of the aspects about it so I’ll talk about that after you can hear where it is now. Many thanks in advance

@Mailin Herbst thanks for the comments. He’s actually come a long way in his singing, but I don’t think this isn’t one of his best performances but I do think it’s a strong song lyrically.

@Mailin Herbst no worries - I was not offended at all. He has worked with a few teachers, but he’s also the type who has to figure it out himself and isn’t willing to spend time in study even though he would progress faster that way. We are both ADHD - although he is the hyperactive style and I'm more the ‘stuck in concerted effort’ type. That said, I like his lyrics a lot and we’ve had some good response to other tunes.
String library session section - what’s best?
I am going to buy a new string library and would appreciate your experience and knowledge to help me make a proper choice. I am NOT looking for a massive cinematic orchestra. More a 14-piece section for performance of string arrangements as we hear them in productions from Nashville or as they were done with Sinatra back in the days and today on albums as the wonderful new country album with Paul Carack. Hoping you are willing to share some ideas!

I'm a big Spitfire fan and have probably half a dozen libraries but it's my first stop. There are times when I use other ones as a better fit but BBC Symphony Orchestra by Spitfire is my first stop.
