Getting ready for the holidays!
I'm excited! This week we learned that not only will my our of state daughter and her boyfriend be here for Thanksgiving on my birthday week, but my little brother is coming home from Germany for the week and will be promoted to Major in the Army while he's here (and overlapping his birthday week). To let him take part, we're going to do Thanksgiving dinner on Friday with him and our daughter. I've got to scramble a little now that we have so many guests coming, I wanted to have a tabletop tree loaded with small crochet items as a pick-your-own gift/ornament but thought I had until closer to Xmas.. and my husband couldn't find our mini trees... instead of table top though we found a pair of prelit 4ft tall porch-friendly trees in faux urns that are nice and full enough for my gifties (I may need to add ornaments and a garland though) for one inside and a bare one outside... changes my planned tablescape but we'll make do! Now I just need to know if it's 9 or 10 if the twin is bringing a guest! I'm surrounded now with the yarn that I need to make more of my Chibi Thicc mini mushroom gals and flower sprites (patterns by Mushroom Fables Crochet but I expanded the line by making up various heads to match real world mushrooms, some using adaptations of her larger patterns, others more freestyle) and a few more of the mini foraging themed dice bags that I was planning to separately fill a mini tree with as a surprise when our live in 26 year old hosts D&D game nights for them to share with their friends, but will put them out at Thanksgiving and make replacements if too many family members pick them! (Mini Pine Cone and Berry bags by Mushyy and Acorn Bags by My Simplicities by MN.. the bigger mushroom gals/garden fae are also by Mushroom Fables Crochet but gifts for specific people... the minis are going on the tree for self-selected gifting)

Getting ready for the holidays!
Finger Knitting, Blanket Time!
Inspired by @Crystal Martin's finger knit pillow presentation, I finally pulled out this super chunky yarn to make the blanket I intended on ages ago! Watching both that video and poking through her website to see another on making a fingerknit blanket, I got rolling, but used a 19mm crochet hook as a stand in for my fingers/the non-existent knitting needles, so as to keep a little more uniform and stop shrinking my loops. Here goes nothing, thank you! update: playing with various loop holders to keep from collapsing and to help me increase gauge a little with the thinner braided yarn (held with two strands of black worsted)

@Deb Cubillos finished my weaving piece yesterday and just back at the blanket, this time in the livingroom coffee table instead of my bed. had to use a larger loop holder with the thinner braided yarn to try to get similar gauge

Just finished the knit, but the joins are proving difficult with this yarn, no knots held, woven in ends were bulky but unravel.... So on the last two skeins I took some sewing thread and beastily sewed the two ends over each other, trimmed, and singed the raw edges... Will go through the other joins tomorrow to do the same and then stitch the blanket to keep those joins inside the other yarn/on the backside. Boy is that yarn slippery! about 37" squared
Keep on finger knitting
I moved myself to the dining room table… earlier I was using an xl crochet hook as my fingers stand in, but when I got to the green yarn, even with two strands of black worsted weight held with it, it was still knitting up too small compared to the teal and how the black will be. So, I grabbed a pair of the pvc pipes I use as tensioning rods for my rigid heddle loom and am holding my loops on them after I finger knit each lip. They aren’t as wide as the blanket but they are doing their job and I’m experimenting with slightly smaller jumbo plastic knitting needles to hold the overflow so it doesn’t get too tight at the ends or have me miss any of the multiple loops per stitch. Moved to the dining table and my back thanks me! Ty @Crystal Martin for your finger knit pillow presentation and additional finger knit decor on your website!

Weaving while dreaming of cookies
Weaving while I watch (nice simple tablet weaving pattern that kept my hands busy while I took in today’s videos). I’m excited for @Meghan Yager ’s cookie base dough recipe… At one of the places where I used to volunteer, one woman would bake cupcakes from a base recipe and bring in over a dozen where each was a different flavor and had us taste test them! Now I have a lot of food allergies and a recipe like this would let me get flavors that are safe for me and let everyone else have their favorites at the same time (though separate baking rounds). I did miss if you mentioned the temperature and cook time though, and the download doesn’t seem to be coming to my inbox. ty!
