Do birds come to check out your flute sound?
Practice your “listening ears" by hearing and mimicking bird calls. Whenever you hear bird calls, try to mimic them with your whistle, your voice, or your flute. This will hone your skill for listening to your bandmates and creating improvised music that communicates to them that you are listening. I hope you live somewhere with a variety of birds like Austin, Texas. 🙂

It's OK to feel nervous when improvising! But are you in any real danger?
It is OK to feel afraid when you’re improvising, but it is CRUCIAL that you recognize: you are in no real danger. Overcome this fear through exposure. In other words, practice performing in front of the camera & other people. (Remind yourself it won’t kill you!) This is a necessary crucible of becoming a comfortable, confident improviser.

It helps to play in front of people in your classes too! We get used to it.
