Question About Growing Beyond Dispatching
Hi everyone, I am new to dispatching and have been thinking about something. Has anyone ever seen a group of dispatchers work together, save part of their earnings, and eventually buy a truck to become carriers? I'm curious to know if this model has worked before and what challenges it might have.
How did you get your first carrier??
hi guys I am new in dispatching and trying to learn how did you get your first carrier? any advice for bigeners will help thank you.
Introductions
Hi, my name is Joni I live in the Houston Metro area. I have been in the trucking industry pretty much my entire life my dad, my brothers my uncles were all truck drivers and I have drove trucks myself. I did that for about six years and I have been a Pilot car escorting oversize loads for almost 8 years so I would like to get into dispatching because I feel like it’s something that I understand all the aspects of it and I feel like I could be a real resource to the drivers that I support. Ideally, I would like to make around 10 grand a month more would be nice. I am a brand new grandma and my youngest son will be graduating high school next year and I’m just ready to be at home. I loved to camp fish go to concerts. I take cruises just so I can relax and I serve my community in many ways. Primarily, I stand up for and fight for the underserved community. everyone from the homeless to felons to women that have been sex traffic and pregnant young moms youth aging out of the foster care system. I currently run a nonprofit for that and so I am very passionate about what I do and getting into dispatching will allow me to have more time to follow the path that was laid out for me. by God and I am super excited to get started, I hope to work with each and every one of you soon and thank you for letting me join this community.
Hi Joni, Welcome to the community! Your experience in trucking and as a pilot car escort gives you a strong foundation for dispatching. It’s great to see someone with real industry knowledge joining the field. Congratulations on becoming a grandmother and on your son's upcoming graduation. I wish you success in your dispatching journey and hope it gives you the flexibility to spend more time with your family and continue the important work you do in your community. Best of luck, and welcome aboard!
Got my first carrier!!!
Update: I collected my first carrier today. A friend that owns a box truck company with three trucks. Some context: I had to cancel my subscription to the paid portion of Dispatcher University, not because the system does not work but because I can not afford it at the moment. To those that don't know, I was taken advantage of in late 2025 as a lease on owner operator. It left my business near bankruptcy. I transitioned into dispatch because of it. I'm grateful to God I was able to use my contacts in the industry to scale the biggest hurdle to dispatchers, finding carriers. Otherwise I would have to spend lots of money in advertising to let carriers know my company exists. Then afterwards I would have to convince them to work with me. My industry connections helped me bypass that expense and roadblock. Grateful to @Gurpreet Gill for his teaching and expertise that gave me knowledge and tools to help my friends run their businesses more efficiently. I'm encouraged and excited about the future. Once my company returns to the black, I'll return with an update. Thanks to everyone I've met in this community and to all the encouraging words and advice. I can't wait to come back with more good news.
Malcolm hi how did you find your first carrier
Aspiring Truck Dispatcher from Uganda
👋 Hi, I 'Mohamed Hi, my name is Mohamed Hussein I live in Kampala, Uganda, and I am new to truck dispatching. I plan on making $200 per month dispatching trucks as I begin learning and gaining experience. I want to get these 3 things from this course/community: 1. A strong understanding of truck dispatching basics and industry processes. 2. Practical skills to help me start working as a beginner dispatcher. 3. Guidance and support to build experience and grow in this field. For fun I like to do these 3 things: 1. Learning new online skills and business ideas. 2. Watching educational content on YouTube. 3. Spending time with friends and family. What advice would you give to beginners starting truck dispatching?
