Hard bedtimes 💤😴
Bedtime isn’t always about sleep. Sometimes it’s the only quiet moment where everything catches up. The worries. The feelings. The “I’m not good enough” thoughts that stay hidden all day. 🥺 For some children — especially those already working hard to get through the day — night can feel loud. So when a child can’t settle, isn’t sleeping, or keeps coming back out… it’s often not defiance. It’s a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe yet. A few things that can help ease that transition: – A warm bath or shower to shift the body state – Soft lighting, music, or familiar sounds – Deep pressure (like a weighted blanket or tucked-in duvet) – Simple grounding patterns (like gently touching each finger to thumb and counting slowly) – Predictable, steady bedtime rhythm (same order, same feel each night) Or all the above!! Not to “fix” sleep instantly — but to help the body feel a little more settled. Because sleep comes more easily when the body feels safe enough to let go. If you’ve been in this place — what’s helped your child at night?

Still working on this one with my grandkids it’s been challenging
Bluey
I see a lot of people say Bluey sets an impossibly high bar for parents. And I get it. Bandit has the time, the energy, the patience… and somehow turns everything into connection and play. Real life doesn’t always look like that. But at the same time… there’s something about it that feels different to most kids shows. It quietly models: connection over control play as something meaningful (not just “keeping them busy”) co-regulation in everyday moments emotional understanding without it feeling heavy flexibility, imagination, and following the child sometimes And maybe more than anything… it teaches us as much as it teaches them. So I’m curious — Do you feel like it: 👉 sets an unrealistic standard that leaves parents feeling like they’re falling short or 👉 gently shifts how you see your child and respond in those moments Or maybe a bit of both? No right answer — just interested in what it brings up for you 👇

I personally love bluey, I feel like it gives an alternative to a person who sometimes runs short on patience like me, and I have a grandson who likes Bluey and my son, his dad who works remotely and I work remotely at his house one day a week and we discussed the alternatives as they unfold. (I realize this could’ve been written better but I just woke up. Sorry guys.)
🌿 Welcome to Grounded Roots Parenting! (START HERE) A softer way to live, parent, and grow!
A calmer, nervous-system-informed way to parent and live! Shop--> 🛍️ Hi, I’m Ellie — UK based, mum of three, plant lover, and founder of this space. Grounded Roots was created for parents raising deep feelers, neurodivergent children, and kids whose behaviour often gets misunderstood. This is not a “fix your child” space. It’s an “understand what’s happening underneath” space. Here we talk about: 🌿 Regulation before reaction 🌿 What behaviour is really communicating 🌿 ADHD, autism, demand anxiety & sensory overwhelm 🌿 Boundaries with connection 🌿 Real-life tools that work in ordinary family life 🌿 The messy, beautiful in-between I’m Level 3 qualified in Childcare, Learning & Development, with over 20 years working alongside children and families — and I parent with lived experience of ADHD and autism too. Most of what I share comes from real life. From hard days. From repair. From staying steady when it would be easier not to. 📚 Make sure you explore the tabs at the top of the group. They hold structured resources, guides, pathways, and practical tools designed to support you beyond a single post. This space isn’t just conversation — it’s a growing library. You’ll also find: 🌱 Regulation card tools 🌱 Body-based language for children 🌱 Practical frameworks you can return to 🌱 Honest conversation without judgement If you’re here, you probably care deeply. You’re in the right place. Introduce yourself in a new post and tell us what’s brought you here. Let’s grow strong roots together 🌿
