Update…
As of today the roads are now starting to open back up after being closed for 3 weeks. We have finally got a week of rain!! Mother Nature is just letting us know she is still in charge. This year is a complete bust for my homestead and many others. I thank the stars for friends and family and the countless firemen and volunteers!

We Have Hit a Road Block
Hey there. It's been a while. We have hit a major road block with our project. Unfortunately due to "Energy Efficiency Certification" our electric company is absolutely refusing any and all doors, windows, appliances, water heater, and AC mini-split from our old home built less than 5 years ago. This is absolutely devastating. The electric company is stating we will have to replace all of that. I am in just a shock and awe period and so is my husband. I honestly cannot imagine our water heater, a 2.65 gallon German made, is not "Energy Efficient" enough. Our mini-split AC and heat pump certificate expired last year. They will not let us take our $600 plus metal doors, side and front door to new home, nor our double paned crystal glass window. We are beyond ourselves. It's amazing how much mafia is out there. This comes with broken hearts and having to look at our current situation all over again as we sit here in 100 degree weather and no power. We have a generator, but even with this it is expensive.

I am sorry to hear about your roadblocks. It is disheartening when you have plans to reuse what you have and are told you cannot. Chin up. You will find a way.
Fair Warning: You All Should Read This Post Now.
Hello my fellow homesteaders. As you all are deeply passionate about permaculture & homesteading... I wanted to give you a heads up before others. A big change is happening soon. Have you visited the "classroom" tab of this community? You would find three courses named "holistic homesteading academy". Actually It's one course but divided into 3 tracks due to it's length and category. Those 3 tracks are: 1. Permaculture Principles 2. Designing Your Homestead 3. Practical Application This is actually an academy level training taking a person from 0 to almost an expert level in permaculture and homesteading. ... Even if you have no land. (That's actually the ideal scenario) The course was priced at $1300 or around $1500 for payment plans. Almost 3000 students enrolled at that price over 1 year period. But right now? If you click on the "classroom" tab - you will see the price is $297 + $99 + $99 = $495 The reason why the price is so low is because I'm not actively selling it. It's just sitting there. But... 24th June onwards... I'm launching the course again at $897 or more. The launch will happen with ad traffic. So... You have a few days left at this price. Also... There's a 90 days money back guarantee. (Always were) If you ever dreamt of having your own homestead but have no clue how... This is time. This offer is exclusively applied to group members. Go to the "classroom" tab and you will find there to buy it. Cheers!

This might be a great time for me to do this as I have to start over. The course will show me things like… should I rearrange my building set up? would I do something differently? Working Smarter not harder. Count me in!
Out of control forest fire!
It is with sad news that I have to tell you that my little off grid paradise has been swallowed up by the raging forest fire running rampant here. I did manage to get my animal menagerie out. They are homes at my friend’s farm. There is nothing left.

@Tamas Nemeth I wanted people to know that it can happen and remind people not to forget insurance. No matter how steep the price one might think it is. I am safely with friends and my animals are loving their lives at my friend’s farm. I think they are thinking they are staying in a 5 star hotel compared to my little place. When I think of all the people that this fire has displaced I am only a drop in the bucket. I’ll rebuild once I can. But a lot of these people are truly left with nothing.

@Barry Fontaine Jr They are Pearl Grey Guinea Fowl. I think a definite must for places that have an abundance of ticks (there never used to be any here and now they are so bad) and they are noisy creatures and is a great alarm for when predators are close by. Their meat is good and so are their eggs.

As a lover of nature I have dedicated the last 20 years to horticulture and having a sustainable property. The next phase of my journey is off-grid.
