I have posted this on another thread here, but I just wanted to make it a post in general. It is about the Channel 4 documentary, ADHD: The Great Myth. And what I think of it: I thought the documentary was a load of BS. People WITHOUT the condition telling people WITH the condition that it ISN'T a condition. The main issue for me is that there are so many people self-diagnosing because of influencers etc who self-diagnosed themselves putting out misinformation that they have ADHD and then telling others that this is how you know YOU have it too if they listen to them until the end on their channels. And because of that, it has now been claimed that it's all made up. Yeah, thanks you a**eholes. If someone says to me that they have ADHD and they self diagnosed it I just won't accept it and I won't listen because that's the main reason why this condition has been dismissed. I could've easily self diagnosed myself, but I didn't because I didn't think it was fair if I didn't get the proper diagnosis and the proper information and proof that I have the condition. If you watch these YouTube channels and the people that are self-diagnosing others on this and other platforms, all they go on about is how they forget things, how it's a superpower and you can really concentrate on things and how it can make you a better person. Well, let me tell you one thing it's been a complete curse for me. It has ruined so many opportunities in my life, and I take huge offence at these people pretending to have it when to them it's just the flavour of the month, or the current trend to claim you have Neurodiversity, including autism and ADHD. That's how I know these people don't have the condition because it's not all fun and games like they think it is, but it can sometimes be a crippling condition that can affect your mood, your life, and your overall well-being. It is not a joke. If we are to be taken seriously, be seen as serious, and the condition been seen as a real mental health problem, then we have to stop allowing people to self-diagnose because it's ruining it for the rest of us.
