10 contributions to Build A Profitable Travel Biz
Introduction-Michael Johnson
My Name is Michael Johnson. I help 55+ solo travelers and singles go from overwhelmed and unsure to confident, connected, and ready for their next adventure through local meetups, curated trips, and my Skool community, One Step Away Travelers. My biggest challenge right now is building smooth funnels that move people from Facebook and Meetup into Skool without adding unnecessary complexity to my workflow.

Why Most New Travel Businesses Fail (and How to Avoid It)
Most new travel businesses fail for one reason: 👉 They stay in the “planning” stage forever. They tweak their logo. They change their colors. They redo their bio 12 times. But they never talk to a single potential traveler. I did this for ages! I think it was a stalling tactic out of fear of launching and getting crickets. But once I finally said okay just do it, start and tweak later, I got my first client within a couple days! I posted, and someone replied to me on Facebook and asked about Jordan, We planned something amazing and custom to her and she booked! It was my first $600 but it felt like $6 million. It was so exciting and definitely a confidence booster. After that it grew into something magical. Your business grows through conversations — not Canva. Most of my business actually comes from conversations in Social Media, connecting with people and really hearing what they need then providing that for them. Sure, aesthetic matters, BUT... They dont care what the colour of your title on your website is more than they care about the confidence in who they book with based on the conversation they have with you and the experience they know they will get. This is also how you learn. Learn what people really want or need and how to meet that need. What’s ONE thing you’ve been “planning” but not acting on?

Absolutely agree with this 100%.I spent a long time in that “busy but not productive” stage too — tweaking graphics, reworking group names, reorganizing things behind the scenes — all stuff that felt like progress but didn’t actually move anyone closer to booking a trip. The real shift happened when I finally started talking to people:👉 singles in my local community👉 travelers in my Facebook + Meetup groups👉 people who were nervous about traveling solo👉 and folks who just wanted connection + confidence Once I focused on conversations over perfection, everything started moving. My new Skool community is the perfect example — the more I interact, ask questions, listen, and show up, the more momentum I feel building. People don’t care about my colors… they care about the experience, the support, and the trust. The thing I’ve been “planning” but not acting on? Launching bigger group experiences and promoting them consistently. I’ve got the ideas, the funnels, the community… now it’s just leaning into conversations and letting people raise their hand. Thanks for the reminder — this post hits home. 🙌

Hi everyone! 👋 I’m Michael joining in from San Antonio, Texas — where the tacos are delicious and the flights to vacation are usually not 😂✈️ What excites me most about building a travel business is helping people step away from their everyday lives to connect, dance, explore, and make memories — especially solo travelers who don’t want to adventure alone. I also want to transition into doing this full-time in the next year or two, because I’d much rather help people pack suitcases than file insurance claims. One thing I’d really love to learn here is how to consistently generate clients and group bookings without needing a clone of myself. Systems, automation, smarter marketing — give me all of it! Excited to grow with everyone here and cheer on your wins!

🧲 The Client Magnet Post Formula
Ever wonder why some people’s posts instantly get comments, shares, and DMs… while others just fall flat? It’s not luck — it’s a structure. Here’s the simple 3-step formula you can steal for your travel biz posts: 1️⃣ Hook Start with something that grabs attention in the first 3 seconds. Examples: ✨ “Did you know you can travel for free if you bring 10 friends with you?” ✨ “Here’s why most new travel businesses fail in their first year…” 2️⃣ Value Give them a quick insight, tip, or resource they can use. Something that helps them right now. Ex: Break down one simple way to price a tour, or share a secret for finding your first clients. 3️⃣ CTA (Call-to-Action) Tell them exactly what to do next. Ex: “Drop a 🌍 if you’d love to lead your own group trip someday” or “DM me the word ‘TRAVEL’ and I’ll send you my free starter guide.” -------------- Let me know in the comments how you might revamp this to your own posts and business. ( See what I did there? Notice how this very post followed the same exact formula: Hook → Value → CTA?)

✈️ Example: Travel Advisor Version — Costa Rica Focus Hook:🌿 “Want to know the one destination that changes how people see the world — and themselves?” Value:For me, that’s Costa Rica. It’s where adventure meets peace — volcanoes, rainforests, beaches, and that magical phrase “pura vida.” I’ve seen travelers arrive stressed and leave transformed. Whether it’s soaking in hot springs near Arenal or spotting monkeys in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica heals and inspires like nowhere else. CTA:💬 Drop a 🌴 if Costa Rica’s on your bucket list — or DM me “PURA VIDA” and I’ll share my favorite resorts and itinerary ideas for your next retreat.
