Include practices like yoga or tai chi for their dual benefit on physical and mental health. Mindfulness Meditation: Carve out time for meditation, even if it's just 5 minutes a day. Mindfulness teaches presence, reduces stress, and enhances mental clarity. Use guided meditations if you're new to the practice or explore techniques like Vipassana for deeper introspection. Sleep as a Pillar of Health: Prioritize sleep by creating a restful environment and routine. Quality sleep is crucial for recovery, mental health, and emotional balance. Limit screen time before bed and consider practices like journaling or reading to wind down. Emotional Release and Expression: Find healthy ways to process emotions, whether through art, music, therapy, or simply talking with trusted friends or family. Practice gratitude; it shifts focus from what's missing to the abundance that's already present.

Iโ€™m a nurse, so on my days off I really aim to be outside as much as possible. This year, I have started a vegetable garden that has had most my attention when Iโ€™m home. Iโ€™ve also recently became interested in yoga. Though I have not attempted yoga, I have read a lot of great work regarding the benefits of yoga on mental health. So, hoping to start that soon.

Obesity obesity rates were relatively stable for decades. But something shifted around the late 1970s and early 1980s across all age groups for both women and men. What changed? It wasn't our biology it was our food environment. In 1977 the US release the dietary goals for Americans urging citizens to cut fat and eat more carbohydrates especially complex ones like bread pasta and cereals. A few years later the infamous food pyramid was born placing refined grains is the foundation of the ""healthy diet at the same time the process food industry saw a golden opportunity. Big tobacco faced increasing regulations. Tobacco companies pivoted into food. Philip Morris, RJR Nabisco bought numerous food brands. These corporations use the same addiction science they have in selling cigarettes to engineer hyper palatable ultra processed foods designed to hijack our taste buds and override satiety. These modified foods not only affect our physical health but our mental health. They told us to fear fat. So food companies stripped it out and added sugar, starch, and industrial seed oils instead. This led to an explosion of obesity, type two diabetes, chronic disease, and mental health issues. ADD/ADHD diagnosis exploded. Thankfully you can take back control with real, whole, nutrient-dense foods. Think clean protein, healthy fats like avocado, colorful vegetables, and slow burning carbs like sweet potatoes. Choosing organic makes a big difference because you have fewer pesticides in your fruits and vegetable's. Their blueprint for profit doesn't have to become the blueprint for your body.
