The Fly-Press
The fly-press is a chest exercise that is often performed with dumbbells but can also be performed with cables. I’ve heard it said before that this exercise is the best of both worlds. You get more shoulder abduction than a press, but more scapular retraction than a fly. Since this exercise allows for more shoulder abduction but still scapular retraction, would it lengthen the middle pecs more than a press?

@Ben Yanes I’m looking forward to the narrow vs wide pressing video. If you’re open to suggestions for the video, I’m confused whether you think that a ~45deg arm path could stretch the sternal/costal pecs as much as a wider arm path. The sternal/costal pecs attach to the humerus. So, all else being equal (the same amount of shoulder extension & scapular retraction), wouldn’t more humeral abduction stretch them more? I’d learn a lot if you covered that :)

Adductor biomechanics! When we want to stretch the vertical fibers of the magnus in a press, we go for a hip flexed position like in a leg press. Does that mean that in a hip adduction machine leaning forward would bias these fibers more?
Experimenting with HIT training
Today, I started high intensity training, popularized by Mike mentzer. The method is to do 1 set only for each body part, but to push it all the way to failure. True failure too, not the "failure" where it starts to hurt. The rationale is that it's better to do one set where you go all the way to failure and maximize the recruitment of muscle fibers, rather than leaving reps in the tank and leaving parts of the muscle unstimulated. When you leave reps in the tank, you leave gains on the table, according to the henneman size principle. It's all about maximizing quality over quantity. It's a very hard way of training, you really have to push yourself, but I'm sure that it will work really well. It makes sense logically, and I've already found lower volume with higher intensity to be better for growth (and time efficiency), this is me taking that to it's logical conclusion. I'll update people on how the experience is as time goes on.

Have fun! When I experimented with HIT, it taught me to be more intentional.
