Musical Bodies exhibit at the Met, NYC
Hey all! I’m new here- hi! 👋 1. On Monday I went to the gorgeous Met exhibit Musical Bodies. It was so cool! I thought some of y’all might like to see the Violino Harpo Forma Maxima (1874) by Austrian luthier Thomas Zach. “This extravagantly curved, larger than life experimental Violin was built to test a Bucharest prince’s unorthodox theories about acoustics. While the instrument’s sound production was originally deemed disappointing, its striking organic and anatomical design perfectly embodies the theme of the exhibit, which explores the historical relationship between musical instruments and the human form.” 2. I‘ve been lucky to see and try out a Strad or 2 before, but I never saw one with a fingerboard this short! 😜

Would love to know how this sounds. Would also love to see what the violin case would have to look like…

Won't be here for transcription lab, nor practice club, on Monday, so posting transcription here. Happy weekend all.

I’m actually blown away with your accuracy here. So cool! It sounds really fun to play along with too!
A gig you will always remember and why?
One of the gigs I will always remember was actually a small jazz club in Paris with the amazing Sebastien Giniaux and Matheau Chatelain. Iv always been a fan of Sebs, ever since I first heard him play on YT and at Samois Festival. It was great to play with such a legend of that music in such a relaxed and chilled setting. People outside of music often expect that we are a little more aspirational with the size of gigs we want to play. As jazz musicians, it’s often the case that we are happiest in a small room with an audience that’s interested. It’s my happy place! How about you?
New To Jazz Violin?
Our free starter workshop last month was a blast! We had about 15 people from all over the world join us to work on the A section of Lady Be Good. I'm running the next one on July 4th! It's going to be a repeat of the same material for anyone new or anyone who couldn't make it. Register HERE

@Isabelle Marchand Moi aussi, j’ai hâte de vous rencontrer
What tune gives you the most difficulty?
For me it’s anything based on those Coltrane changes like countdown or Giant Steps. I find I can play over it if I’m reading it but I forget the changes really easily. If I play it with anyone in a gig or jam setting, it always ends up a car crash on my part How about you?
