How can I learn Shines/Combo faster?
Ever wonder why some dancers pick things up SO FAST in class? What I’ve noticed is that many dancers are missing a huge piece of the learning process. I’ve taught hundreds of dancers how to learn faster and more effectively in class — from students who struggle with a single 8-count to dancers who can learn any Shines & choreography almost instantly that even shocked me🤯 Does this sound like your experience? Or do you have any tips that have helped you learn faster? Drop them below 👇 and I’ll share my methodology in a blog inside the “To Answer Your Questions…” course!

@Brianna Youssef oh same here! I guess we didn’t really remember them so once we finished the classes, they were not in our memories to social dance

@Brianna Youssef I feel like more practice is good, but I just didn’t get the time and commitment
Shines vs. Partnerwork
I recently had a student tell me, “I don’t really see the point of doing shines. I just want to learn partnerwork—it's not like I’ll actually use shines when I’m social dancing, so why bother?” I have plenty of thoughts on this, but I’d love to hear yours first. Do you enjoy shines, partnerwork, or both? And do you think shines are important to practice? Let's discuss 🎙️💭

@Peiwei Cobo yes I guess at beginning most ppl want to learn social dance (salsa, bachata ) for fun and socials, and most time the classes were about partner work so ppl could go socials. This is a big difference from my ballroom Latin classes where body movement was emphasized from day 1. Many (most) of my salsa friends stopped at advanced beginners. But only after that, from advanced to intermediate, I joined another studio and the teachers emphasised on body movement and they brought my salsa to a different level. I really want to improve my body movement and musicality, and I find practising shines is the best way to improve these. Still lots of things to improve as I find when I look at my own videos, omg so bad, but hopefully after a few months I will improve :)
