Quick observation — Gen Z is changing things (including tax resolution)
I read an article about how Gen Z is reshaping cannabis retail. The big takeaway? They’re not coming in to “get blasted.” They want control, clarity, predictable effects, clean branding, and straight answers. And honestly… I’m seeing the same thing with one of my own clients — a Gen Z veterinarian. Super sharp, but very much: “Just tell me what this notice means, what happens next, and what the steps are.” No hype. No panic talk. No fluff. It lines up perfectly with what the article said: - They’re more educated before they even show up - Money stress is real - They want structure - They ask more questions - They avoid anything that feels chaotic or salesy And this is creeping into tax resolution, big time. Younger clients don’t want the old fear-based IRS messaging. They want calm, simple, step-by-step guidance they can actually follow. Cannabis retailers already adjusted — more education, clearer sections, cleaner branding. We should be adjusting too. Anyone else seeing this with younger clients? More questions? More need for structure? Less tolerance for drama? Curious what everyone’s noticing.

@Andrew Samaniego Andrew, I get what you’re saying. Pain gets people moving — that’s been true since the first CP-504 hit a mailbox. But here’s the difference: you’re talking in generalities. I’m talking about actual clients who sit across from me with their IRS notices and their timelines and their panic. And the younger ones do handle it differently. Not better, not worse — just different. They want clean steps and no theatrics. That’s not a theory, it’s just what happens when you talk to people every day instead of talking about them. Fear might get someone to click an ad. It doesn’t resolve a case. Experience does. And that part you only earn by doing the work, year after year, across every kind of taxpayer. So I’m not chasing trends. I’m reporting what actually happens when the phone rings.

In your experience, what actually closes resolution clients — empathy and authority, or deadline pressure and consequences?
