TEDxUoWaikato Part 1
The Hamilton event was a spectacular success tonight. I was proud of all the speakers and the work your had obviously put in. In fact I was most impressed with a comment from Raymond who was in the audience. I have attended perhaps a dozen TEDx events that I have not been involved in organising, Raymond has attended at least twice that number and has always been a straight shooter in his feedback. After the event he said he turned up expecting an academic performance, and was pleased to find that this was a TEDx performance from every speaker! I take that as high praise! Not a lecture in sight! 😃 Well done everyone! I am looking forward to Tauranga on Thursday. 😎

Congratulations to all the speakers!!! You've set the bar high for the rest of us 🤩
Line up for the events:
FINAL LINE UP! We have remained with the original split between the Hamilton and Tauranga events, with one exception. Nick graciously agreed to move to the Tauranga event as a swap, so that Kirstine can use the piano in the GAPA in Hamilton. The following is our speaking order for the events: Hamilton – Nov 4th 1. Benjamin 2. Samantha 3. James 4. Andreea --interval— 1. Kirstine 2. Sione 3. Ang Tauranga – Nov 6th 1. Chris 2. Lisa 3. Nick 4. Unaisi --interval— 1. Judy 2. Karen 3. Emma

yep, I'm also interesting in the rehearsal times as will need to arrange transport over to Tauranga and the uni shuttles only go at specific times (one car household which I appreciate is rare here!).
Got any tips?
If you have any tips for your fellow TEDx speakers add them in the comments below. I know you will all have little things you do that work for you, which might help someone else...

I asked my sister, who is a trained actor, how she was taught to memorise lines at drama school. Her advice was 'to get it into your body through movement'. I've interpreted that similar to Kirstine as I love walking, but my sister said it can be dance, jumping jacks, the rowing machine, whatever appeals.
A TEDx Talk Breakdown
I recorded a TEDx talk breakdown in the weekend. This is something I have been putting off for a while, I was unsure if anyone would find it interesting. The video is not perfect, but I decided to hit publish this morning anyway. All feedback welcome!

Hi @Chris Hanlon Thanks for making this video recording available. One small request -when background music is added, it can be difficult to hear the spoken content clearly. Would it be possible to lower or remove the music in future recordings?
Introduce yourself...
Let everyone know who you are and where you are. And tell us of the most memorable live presentation you saw or gave. 😃

Hi I'm Lisa, I'm an Associate Professor in Crime Science. I've seen many memorable talks in my time, but I think the one that came to mind when you prompted me to think about it was the Dean of Science at Oxford University speaking at a Women in Academia event. Someone asked her what 'bringing her authentic self' meant to her and she answered that we must avoid becoming caricatures and that her favourite way to unwind was watching Love Island with her teenagers. There was an audible gasp in the room as lots of young women in academia saw that they didn't have to be constrained to an intellectual persona 24/7, they were free to have whatever tastes they liked. It was fun to watch!
