Imperfect action
I hosted a space today for nurses on zoom called pause. I talked about issues that I’ve notice in nursing and invited the participants to share. Asking questions like “where do you need to feel supported today? And what are you carrying that you can let go of?” It went great. But here’s the thing. Only my best friend showed up. It was a learning experience and she didn’t full on interact with me. I proceeded like the space was full. And I even recorded a video before to remember the event. I feel like it was a success because I even showed up today. Now I’ve done it. There’s nothing to be afraid of.

@Terrald Horne absolutely resonate with this 100%. I had 2 doctors approach me and ask why I had left. The culture just got too toxic on top of the demands of the job. I wish I wouldve had a space like yours to understand how to cope before having a nervous breakdown. Please let me know if I can help you in your mission. This is just absolutely beautiful

@Terrald Horne LOVE THISSSS. CHILLS. You could go to local nursing schools and post flyers or ask the staff to share about your zoom meetings. Put scan codes up.
Advice for Getting Started
As someone who is just brand newly getting started, I would love some advice from coaches that have been killing it out there. 1. What was the first thing you did to get going? 2. What were your biggest hurdles to getting started? 3. How did you come up with a good plan for clients? 4. Is it better to specialize into one niche? 5. Anything other advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

1. Figure out what your offer is and how it is different from anything that is already out there. (how can you serve) 2. Biggest Hurdles are mental games- keeping the inner critic quiet, understanding it doesn't have to be perfect or dialed in 3. I asked my clients what was working, what wasn't working, what felt sticky or stuck and modified from there 4. If your a nurse, the niche is the hardest part to figure out because we have been trained to serve everyone and help everyone. If you're working in the online space- one niche and one offer will gain someones trust and move you from the creepy online person to someone that they see can actually help them. If you are working in your community- niche and offer can be fluid depending on what people are coming to you for. Easier to gain trust in person...Just my observation. The important thing to focus on is how can you help this person- and then help them....just start. 5. Don't overwhelm yourself with systems, tech, and a million different workshops. Have a mentor that is doing and has what you want. Learn to listen to yourself and drown the noise. Create before you consume....

A little ditty about Ja… errr, Me!
Aloha! Name is Leslie. I live in Hawaii with my partner and my fuzzy nugget. I quit my job in cardiac surgery (well, I told them to kiss my ass and shove it) and started the journey to finding my joy again. I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD (which explained my whole confusing existence) That led me to become a holistic nurse coach, start using plant medicine to wake the fuc* back up and I started writing… and writing and writing. I became a published author, learned the publishing world and now I coach people how Story is Medicine, how to write books and I own a little boutique publishing house that caters to marginalized voices. Favorite Nickelodeon show was rugrats. super stoked to find some real humans on the intrawebs. Can’t wait to connect with you lovely HUMANS

@Sydney Rinderknecht I’m mostly on Substack with longer form content/ podcast, etc. https://substack.com/@lesliewall1?r=47diou&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=profile I publish some of my work through Amazon KDP and sell them independently on my websites. I’m not really focused on becoming a best seller (although that would be Amazing), I use my books and teach my clients to write books that lead to their other products and services.

is traditional healthcare like the upside down??
Hiiii! This isn't really related to nurse coaching (or is it???) but I need to state that I am not okay after the Stranger Things finale!!! Like what a sweet and tender ending to such a kickass show!? 🥹 The only parallel I can really draw between nursing and the ST world is that working in the traditional bedside RN role in U.S. healthcare is like being in the Upside Down and I feel like the main ST cast represents the Nurse Coaching movement and the badass nurse coaching community behind it! Maybe this is unhinged, but really just some honest thoughts and truly just so sad the show is over 😪 and this was a fun way to process/conceptualize what a better healthcare world can look like. Curious to hear y'all's thoughts 👀🫶 I also may or may not have taken a lil bit o 🍄 the other day hehe

I can TOTALLY see what you’re saying!! I truly believe that everything that is crashing with politics, healthcare, and the rest of the world is meant to rise and burn away… Holistic medicine/ plant medicine/ true/ authentic healing is going to continue to grow, people are waking up to the fact that our system is beyond repair and only making the patients and the workers sicker. Holistic medicine is literally a wide open field right now, you can get as niched down and crazy as you want to with this thing. I have friends that are payed to hug people (with clothes on) for an hour just to help those people reset their nervous systems! Human connection is the medicine. Real, true, authentic human connection. I think we have a unique advantage right now while we are in the upside down of things, those of us who have seen the truth and know how to teach the truth will be part of the new frontier of medicine. The cracks are starting to show, once exposed to the light, the only thing that will stand is the truth. Love this perspective and reflection though! Damn. Now I have to rewatch this episode. lol
