Day 3
- What did you remove today? Chips and cookies 🤤 - What was hardest to let go of? Cookies 😂 - What did you replace it with? Fresh fruit and nuts with exercises in the morning and night - What surprised you? My mood I was happier - I do worry about eating to much fruit 🍑 😁 how it could be exchanging 1 habit for another 1 type of sugar for another or maybe 🤔 I think 💬 to much 😆

Great changes! Yes, eating too much fruit will give us a spike, so here are a couple of ways to reduce it. - Have yogurt with your fruit - Move after eating it - Never have just fruit juice The sugar in fruit is released into the body at a slower rate as it is bound up with the fibre. This means the glucose spike isn’t as rapid as it would be from refined sugar. However, if we remove the fibre, (fruit juice) this will cause a massive spike and we should aim to avoid fruit juice and smoothies. Eating yogurt with the fruit reduces the glucose spike. With yogurt, it should be plain, whole yogurt, not flavoured or low fat. Moving - ideally 10 minute walk after eating, but if you can’t do that just do some form of movement, even if it’s 10 body weight squats. Limit or avoid exotic fruits and grapes and dried fruit are out. Something to remember is the fruit we eat today has been engineered to make it bigger, sweeter and less pips than it originally was. So although it feels like a healthier option, we need to be mindful of the amount we eat.
Sugar cravings for women
@Paul Barnes just asked me an interesting question. “What about cravings for the women in the group, when it’s that time of the month, it feels unfair as us men as we don’t experience what it’s like for them, is there anything else that they can be doing?” This is a very valid point and I’d love to hear if you already have an action plan for this. This is what I’ve learnt so far and here are some tips that I hope can help. If you’re in the week before or during your period and cravings increase, that’s not random. Hormones shift. Insulin sensitivity changes. Sleep can worsen. Energy demand rises. Support the body rather than fight it: more protein, more rest, magnesium support, and pre-planned snacks. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s working with your biology. Women are not “breaking the challenge” during this week. They are: - navigating hormonal physiology - managing shifting metabolism - supporting their nervous system This is not a discipline failure. It’s a phase-specific strategy shift. But increasing magnesium supplementation may help; Magnesium, the menstrual cycle, and sugar cravings In the week before and during a period, several hormonal changes occur: - Progesterone rises then drops - Estrogen falls - Insulin sensitivity often decreases - Stress response can increase - The body’s energy demand changes These shifts can lead to: - increased cravings (especially for carbohydrates and sugar) - mood changes - fatigue - sleep disruption Magnesium becomes relevant here because it plays roles in: - glucose regulation - insulin sensitivity - nervous system regulation - PMS symptom support - sleep quality - muscle relaxation Some research and clinical observations suggest magnesium status may drop or demand may increase during the luteal phase. Supplementation has been associated in some studies with reduced PMS symptoms, including cravings, mood changes, and irritability.

@Shonna Huckaby hi Shonna, I can only say what I’m thinking and can’t advise you from a medical or professional stand point, but my thoughts around melatonin are to be used in one off situations, like long haul flights…please do some research into it, let me know what you find out. I’ve found the most powerful lever to pull for setting circadian rhythm is to get up at the same time every morning and get outside and move, (I tend to run round the block), but that combination sets your body clock which in turn regulates your own hormones (melatonin) and allows adenosine to start building from that point which will make you sleep better that night. Then bedtime routine plays an important role as sleep is the most crucial. If you’ve squared away decent prep for bed, sleep routine and morning routine already and done that consistently for some time and still struggling, then looking to add something else, like a supplement,I get that. **but make sure you’ve done all you can first. If you want help on this we can chat further.

This little bowl of bastards I’m on a job…. Waiting…. Cold, hungry and bored… But something I just say to myself is “they’re not for me”, “they’re for the other people”, “they’re for the sacks and I’m not a sack” Stay strong 💪🏼

@Paul Barnes Something that I find can be very "comforting" is a hot nutritious drink like a bone broth, or chicken soup. Some good music is a mood lifter too
Day 1
- Hi, my name is Shonna, I'm a mother that has gone thru the ups and downs of life, I drive a truck 🚛 for a living so healthy choices out a gas stations is not easy 😂 but I need to change my life around and get into the right mindset for the changes that I want to make - I want to cut sugar for now because of age I want to be around to see grandkids run around & reek havoc on my son and wife 😂 - The main thing I struggle with is cravings and caffeine withdrawal - The kind of support I need during this challenge is just daily check-ins with the others and seeing how they handle the daily battles - I'm committed to going sugar free for 21 days to unlock peace with my mind knowing that I do have the mindset and will power to make more healthier choices for my life 🧬 I only get 1 shot at this life I need make the most of it

Thank you Shonna, Life on the Road can be so hard when it comes to eating well. I’ve spent a lot of time living on the road and my go to in the service station became a couple of chicken fillets and a carton of milk, because literally everything else was shit. It’s great to have you here and great that you are ready to make a change. With caffeine, I’d find it super hard to cut sugar and coffee! Having a coffee can help cut my cravings. Good luck for your journey. We’re with you.
