Hears Perfection
Anyone have a thought or two regarding Hears Perfection from Brainworx? I’ve been needing to work on calibrating my listening environment both on headphones and with my speakers. Plus, the plug in was on sale, $80 off on Plugin Alliance, so it seemed like a good time to take the plunge. Also, I do have Ollo headphones so my initial thought would be the Hears would be instead of as opposed to in tandem with the Ollo set up. Thanks for all your help and hope all are well and busy.

I am glad I stumbled upon this thread. I have been stuck finishing some works for quite a while due to my hearing loss. Since I joined this group I have learned a slew of techniques to mix and master only to realize that I kept compensating some frequencies and hereby destroyed my mix. Hearse was suggested by a friend, but I thought it is just another gimmick (I am wearing hearing aids and I do not really like them for many reasons, but I reach for them for critical listening in discussions). Thanks to this thread, I dared to purchase the Hearse plugin and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Results immediately. I still prepare and finish tracks without Hearse and only apply the plugin when checking the overall mix (I have been fairly comfortable to go with visuals until now, so I am still used to that). How do you approach the workflow? From the start, intermittent or in the final stages?

I wish Berlin all the best. She has chimed in on some of my posts and always had some advice or idea ready. Thank you for that. Was hoping to get to know you/your work better.
Crossing With You
This is a song I wrote and produced and have mixed best I can (that is, finished is better than perfect?) according to the Foundation Method. It comes out about -8.5 I-LUFS but some sections are maybe -6. Let me know your opinion about whether it met the goals and is ready to submit to a mastering engineer. Of course, I'm taking the Mastering Intensive, so I may be able to answer my own question shortly! :) .https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yTP1CVnbJfdQDZLdS9_GZZllluTl0Vus/view?usp=drive_link

Tom, this is a wonderful piece of music. I personally like your approach towards writing and arrangement. Your creativity in sound sculpting also comes through. I think you seem to run into similar issues that I run into, which in my particular case is a hearing problem. As we get older frequencies disappear. So I try to make up for that and that's where the trouble starts. Transients, muddiness, too much in the high frequencies etc. So I get more and more into the idea to have someone else master the music. However, I have learned enough here over the time I joined this here group of fine youngn's to sound reasonably good. So I am hanging in there. Being a fan of THE NATIONAL I can hear what you are looking for. I would be interested to hear what @Paint Masteringdotca can do with your track. I think it would be very challenging and rewarding at the same time. Take care!
Transitioning to another PC and Quirks
Hello, all! I have been away from this forum and mixing in particular for various reasons. one of them was moving my music related files, programs and plugins to a new PC. While most of this was easier than I thought, some quirks popped up. 1: Downloading installation files. Should all these files be in a specific folder. If yes, where: on OS, E (SSD) or D (regular drive)? 2: Extracting files: same as above? 3: Product Portals: s.a.? 4: VST3: should those files be in the same folder as the DAW (Studio One)? 5: DAW: on OS, E or D? I should say that right now everything works, but the files seem to be all over the place and I don't really favour that, but does it really matter? Next, and this is really bothering me: I have a few unfinished pieces and I use NEUTRON ELEMENTS with these songs. As it is, I am unable to install this EQ on the new PC. It does not even show up in the IZOTOPE Product Portal. I spent weeks with them to have this fixed. (I downloaded this plugin from Presonus a long time ago, when it was part of a Studio one offer) You may say: just use a different EQ, and I probably will. But it is the principle of not being able to retrieve the plugins that are mine, plus the headaches of communicating with IZOTOPE, who don't offer a real solution at this time. Now that they combined with NATIVE INSTRUMENTS , logging in has also become a major issue. I had to redo passwords for no apparent reason. I purchased OZON 10 from NI. While it is visible in their Product Portal, it does not show on IZOTOPE'S. It seems like a problem right now since they are busy transitioning. So I am wondering if you encountered similar issues and what do you suggest I should do in terms of file storing? Thanks for reading this lengthy array of words....🥴

@J Es Hi, I missed your question entirely. Sorry! Intel(R)Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHZ. 1.96TB storage, graphics card 8GB, installed RAM 32.0GB. It is not the machine I was dreaming about and that you suggested, but I could not say no to a gift. This PC is entirely dedicated for production. It has lots of inputs outputs, so that's not an issue anymore and it seems to work as well or slightly better than my ASUS laptop. Unfortunately I missed the deadline to update my laptop to Windows 11.... thanks for asking!

@Andy Laird thank you for always giving concise advice!
MAAT meter
Watched the mastering video. Noticed the MAAT meter. Is there an alternative you can think of? It seems a bit complicated..?🤓

Thank you for all the helpful comments! You know, before the 'metering' thing became an issue to me🤓I actually used Waves WLM Loudness Meter. I usually went for the long LUFS, until I realized I can monitor the short term LUFS as well. However why do we use -7 in MAAT and how do we set Youlean to -7 ( I too have the free version but never delved into it) Just wondering why -7? Cheers!

@Jaxon Reed Jaxon, sorry for the late reply... I have not been around often enough lately. My biggest challenge is capturing my ideas when they happen. I should always have pen and paper ready, or my phone to record phrases. The next one is to make a song fit into a genre. Most of the time my finished product is a hybrid of many genres and styles. I have been influenced by 60's and 70's but love the current music as well. Let's just say, perhaps that musical pot puree makes my music interesting for some folks. I don't write for anybody, I am not time challenged, I just move on. Sometimes I just write a song with a bass guitar in hand, other times an old nylon guitar, other times with my regular acoustic and/or electric guitar, often with my keyboard. Most of the times lyrics appear from that simple approach. Rarely do I write first the lyrics, then the music. When you play an instrument, all the troubles or the best things of the day come through. So the words follow. Sometimes I don't even make up words, just sounds, mimicking words. For me being German, that comes easy. These sounds will later become proper words. (In the late 60's I was busking in Ibiza singing a Bob Dylan song, just making up 'English' sounds.....😂. In the end, my challenge is getting 'professional' sounding tracks. I am still figuring that out, but this place here has helped me along nicely... thanks folks!🕊️
