My channel is about nature and wildlife photography.
Slower videos for over 40s?
I know there's all this talk about quick cuts, zoom-ins, etc, to keep viewers watching, but since this is a group Alexa has assembled of 40+ year olds (in my case, a quarter century beyond THAT!) I wonder if the older demographic is less likely to be turned off by a more leisurely approach. I saw Ron Howard on Conan O'Brian's podcast recently talking about the unhurried pace of the editing, directing and acting on the Andy Griffith Show. Since most of us were raised on *that* type of editing, what does everyone think about -- if not IGNORING -- at least TEMPERING the advice about keeping things moving moving moving in our videos, particularly in shorts, which sometimes feel like I'll have a seizure if they go any faster. Thoughts? As an aside: If you've watched many Andy Griffith shows -- or Bewitched, or Disney musicals -- you'll probably recognize my grandmother's cousin, character actress Reta Shaw. Yes, sad to say, there's a bit of a resemblance. lol!

I think retention style editing has been falling out of favor.

It keeps getting better and better. Now it can generate thumbnails based on your idea or by scanning your video. You can then tell it to add, subtract, change etc. Even if you didn’t go with it, it gives you ideas that would help you make your own. I also have the coaching version which has been really helpful seeing my videos through another set of eyes and getting constructive feedback. The video I’m working on now, my coach suggested I cut everything from the 1:00 mark to the 4:30 mark because it wasn’t really pushing what the video was supposed to be about. Chopped that out and when I watched it back I could see how it now flows better and it doesn’t stray from the information that the thumbnail and video were offering the viewer.

@Jc Cz Can’t go wrong for ten bucks. I don’t know if I’m ready or not or if I’ll get anything out of it but for a little more than a venti latte, I’m willing to try it.

@Hector Pineda Thank you!
Test Videos are really helpful
I've been making short 5-7 minute test videos to get comfortable filming myself. So far I've made around 8 of these as trying to get good lighting, and to test out my audio. I was also a bit nervous using the light box with its giant light bulb!! 🤦 Being in my 60s, getting a good image is a big challenge. I know they say that nobody cares what you look like, but there is nothing more demoralising than looking like you haven't slept for a week! 😑 AND I've had to film using the lense at the back of my phone. If I look at the front display I'm looking slightly to the right which is really annoying. Will carry on every day. Sooooo glad I've done this because had I left it until I wanted the actual footage it would have wasted a good couple of weeks sorting all this out and got totally stressed out.
