Breathing
I have followed your instructions in taking a breath, holding for a count of 2 breathing out slowly on count 3 then while pulling your arms back take a breath. My problem is after putting my head back in the water I sink to far not staying close to the surface for the next pull of the arms to go forward. What am I doing wrong? I wish I could take a video to show you what I’m talking about but don’t have anyone at the pool to do that for me.

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe the video you referenced is just the thing I needed along with your comments. I’ll let you know how it’s going. Thanks again Coach Jeff. I also will apply patience in the process as well. This is also key as you noted!

Thanks Luke. I concentrated on doing that and it helped. So now it’s just practice. Also, when rolling over from belly to back, so far when I do that and exhale through the nose either with a sound or just blowing it out quickly, water still goes up my nose. Not a lot but the sensation of the chlorine in my nose is uncomfortable. I’ll keep practicing until no water enters my nose. Any tips to improve that will be great. Thanks everyone for your instruction and help.
First Time Ever
I finished my swim lessons and tried swimming laps for the first time ever. You have to schedule the lanes and I didn't know what number was what, but when I got to the pool I told the lifeguard that it was my first time swimming laps or ever swimming in the deep end and I wanted to be next to the wall... just in case. He kindly switched me to the correct lane and ... I did it! Now I know that I can do it! I get tired really quickly because the breathing thing is hard for me when swimming freestyle. I will continue to work on that, but I am really proud after being afraid to be in water over my head for years. I am grateful for the lessons I learned from you about getting acclimated to water and swimming underwater. Also the lessons about how to breathe before even getting into the water. I believe that both those lessons helped me tremendously. The lessons they give at the Y are good but I guess they have to push everyone to the next step quickly just by the nature of things. Thank you Coach Jeff and Coach Meredith.

Congrats. We have something in common. I just started swim lessons and really excited. Love this community and lessons. Can’t wait to apply what I’m learning.
