SOTN: CREED IRIS DEBONAIR
SOTD โ€” Creed Iris Debonair I was able to score a tester of the new Creed Iris Debonair pre-release last week at a really good price, so of course I had to give it a proper wearing. This is definitely a different direction for Creed. Right away you get that smooth, powdery iris with a little pepper and lavender around it, but it doesnโ€™t come across overly lipstick-like to me. Once it settles down, the iris gets creamier and the sandalwood and musk start showing up, giving it a much smoother, slightly woody feel. There are going to be Dior Homme comparisons, especially early on, and I understand why. But after it develops, I think Iris Debonair starts separating itself. It feels a little airier, cleaner and more polished rather than being that dense makeup-bag iris style. What I like most is the balance. It has some sweetness, but it isnโ€™t really a sweet fragrance. It is floral without feeling feminine, powdery without becoming dusty, and has enough woods underneath it to keep everything grounded. Projection and sillage have been very good so far without it being obnoxious. This smells more like something I would wear dressed up, dinner, evening out or when I just want something a little more refined. Is Creed reinventing iris here? No. But they did a very good Creed interpretation of it, and I think this is one of their more interesting recent releases. I need a few more full wearings before I decide where it ranks in the Creed lineup, but my first impression is definitely positive. Iris Debonair is one I think people are going to be talking about once it officially hits the shelves.

That is cool first take. Might put that on the list. I do like a solid iris fragrance.
Fragrance Layering in an ad
Got a fragrancenet.com email ad about layering in three steps. I thought this was a little novel approach for an ad, but crazy if you are into fragrances and know something about layering. They did show some images rotating for the base and the top note. Step 1 choose a base, choose something warm and long lasting. Step 2 add a top note, something lighter and brighter Step 3 apply base then apply top note..

They had Tobacco Vanille for a base and Mancera Roses Vanille along with a couple middle eastern fragrances. The showed amber, musk, vanilla as the notes. Then for top notes Baccarat Rouge, Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt and a couple other frags, with notes suggested of floral and citrus.
Fragrance Industry News!
The biggest industry story is consolidation and control of major fragrance licenses, while overall fragrance growth is beginning to normalize after several unusually strong years. Puig remains independentโ€”and is still growing Puig reported 4.4% like-for-like revenue growth for the first half of 2026, its first major financial update since merger discussions with Estรฉe Lauder ended in May. The numbers suggest Puig does not urgently need a deal, although fragrance growth is slowing from the extraordinary post-pandemic pace. Travel retail is also being pressured by geopolitical instability, particularly in the Middle East. Why it matters: Puig controls one of the strongest fragrance portfolios in the industryโ€”Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Carolina Herrera, Byredo, Penhaligonโ€™s, Lโ€™Artisan Parfumeur and Charlotte Tilbury. Remaining independent preserves its identity, but the merger discussions show how valuable fragrance portfolios have become. Lโ€™Orรฉal is becoming an even larger fragrance power Lโ€™Orรฉal completed its acquisition of Kering Beautรฉ, including Creed, in March 2026. It also secured long-term beauty and fragrance licenses for Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga. The company has now announced a 50-year Gucci beauty license, beginning July 1, 2027, after Gucci and Coty agreed to end their arrangement early. Lโ€™Orรฉal reported 6% like-for-like growth in the second quarter, while Lโ€™Orรฉal Luxe grew 4.7%. That compares favorably with weaker perfume-and-beauty results reported by some traditional luxury groups. My take: Lโ€™Orรฉal is building what may become the industryโ€™s most complete luxury-fragrance machine. It now has couture blockbusters, prestige collections, Maison Margiela, Aesop, Valentino, Prada, YSL, Armani, Mugler, Viktor&Rolf and Creedโ€”with Gucci, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta strengthening the future pipeline. Coty loses Gucci at a difficult time The early termination of Cotyโ€™s Gucci license is significant. Gucci has not recently dominated fragrance the way it once did, but it remains one of the worldโ€™s most recognizable luxury names. Losing it removes an important long-term asset from Cotyโ€™s fragrance portfolio.

Great updates, very interesting seeing all the designer, mass niche and others that fall under different ownership. With a product that takes a year to create (as described by Mes Bisous founder) you can see why vertical integration and horizontal acquisition of different brands makes sense. It also can mean as Lon pointed out fewer risks will be taken there by those brands. Maybe we will see more moves in smaller houses coming out with offerings that are not about the market trends to continue to differentiate but also be sellable at the same time.

SOTD: Soleil dโ€™Italie by Mancera 01/08/2026 ย
If youโ€™re after that perfect Mediterranean summer in a bottle, this is Manceraโ€™s take on โ€œla dolce vitaโ€. Released back in 2019, created by the houseโ€™s founding perfumer Pierre Montale. A bright, unisex Floral Woody Musk that aims to capture the warmth of the Italian sun along the Amalfi Coast. A point worth noting: while it sits firmly in their sunโ€‘soaked Mediterranean collection, it never falls into the trap of being overly sweet or synthetic; itโ€™s built to feel like natural warmth rather than just another โ€œsummer scentโ€, and it seems to be overlooked next to the brandโ€™s bigger hits, which is a shame. Itโ€™s unisex through and through, and strikes that rare balance between character and everyday wearability. It opens with bright, juicy citrus, sharp enough to wake you up but soft, touched with just a pinch of pink pepper for a gentle spark and a whisper of cardamom that adds subtle warmth right from the start, stopping it from feeling thin or oneโ€‘sided. Once that initial burst fades, soft aquatic notes roll in like a light sea breeze, paired with a clean, dewy rose, nothing oldโ€‘fashioned or powdery hereโ€”and fresh patchouli leaves that keep it grounded and green. As it settles fully, you get that classic Mancera polish: smooth vetiver, crisp cedar, warm grey amber, and their signature pristine white musk that ties everything together perfectly. On performance, this is where it surprises most people. Itโ€™s fresh, yesโ€”but still very much Mancera. On skin I get 6 hours solid wear, with a clean, pleasant sillage that stays close enough for work but travels nicely in warm air. Even in high heat it just radiates that effortless, sunny vibe. Versatility is its strongest suit: It works everywhere: office days, warm evenings, weekends awayโ€”if you want that relaxed, sunโ€‘kissed Mediterranean vibe that doesnโ€™t feel like youโ€™re trying too hard, this oneโ€™s absolutely worth having. My Rating 7/10 Scent 2 Longevity 2 Sillage 2 Y/N 1

This is one of my go to summer scents, I'm in high heat and humidity so it wears well. The white musk is more unique to the rest of my scents and that comes out a bit at 8-12 hours of wear. I also have French Riviera and that one reminds me of the beach, suntan lotion but a little more elevated. For references to Soleil d'Italie some related scents ( I agree with the Man eau Fraiche too): Mancera French Riviera, Versace Man Eau Fraiche, Dior Eden-Roc, Xerjoff 40 Knots
Fragrance House Reviews. My Honest Take Next up HERMES (Designer) !!!
Hermรจs is one of the better designer fragrance houses, especially if you like citrus, woods, vetiver, leather, and clean, natural scents. This is not a house that usually follows trends or releases a bunch of sweet, loud fragrances to get attention. Hermรจs has its own style, and most of the fragrances smell mature, refined, and well put together. Jean-Claude Ellena had a lot to do with the identity of the house. His fragrances were usually light, transparent, and simple on the surface, but there was more going on once you wore them. He did not overload his fragrances with a bunch of heavy notes. His style was more about balance, freshness, and creating a clear picture with fewer ingredients. The most important line from Hermรจs is obviously Terre dโ€™Hermรจs. The original EDT is still one of the best masculine designer fragrances ever made. It has bitter orange, pepper, vetiver, cedar, and an earthy mineral smell. It comes across mature, confident, and masculine without smelling loud or dated. The Terre flankers are also handled better than most designer flankers. The Parfum is smoother, richer and more rounded. Eau Intense Vรฉtiver is greener and more focused on vetiver. Eau Givrรฉe is fresher, colder, and better suited for hot weather. They all have their differences, but they still smell connected to the original Terre DNA. The Jardin line is another strong part of Hermรจs. Un Jardin sur le Nil is probably the best known, with green mango, citrus, watery green notes, and woods. Un Jardin en Mรฉditerranรฉe is greener and more fig-heavy, while Le Jardin de Monsieur Li is softer, cleaner and more floral. These are excellent warm-weather fragrances, but most of them are lighter and stay closer to the skin. H24 is Hermรจs trying to be more modern. I respect that they did not just copy Bleu de Chanel or Sauvage. The original H24 has a green, metallic, and slightly floral smell that can be strange at first. The EDP is deeper and easier to wear, while Herbes Vives is fresher and more energetic. It is not my favorite line from the house, but at least it has its own identity.

Great overview, I almost wore my Hermes H24 Herbes Vives today. The opening pear granita, then the sclarene (steam iron), coupled with middle notes of herbs, and then the woody notes is a unique combination. Meanwhile, I chose Elysium by Roja Dove for today.
