CHIN DEVELOPMENT
Hey I met with a coach recently and wanted your opinion on what kind of skill development anyone is doing if they run chin. Is it different post moves. Is it retreat dribbles that gets to a attack again. Just wanted to pick some brains for this.
Screen coverage in LL
I have been doing the LL course and I was interested in pick n roll coverage. Tyler and Mark talk about doing what works for you and your program. Here are my questions: 1. What are thoughts or experiences on coverage (drop, switch, ice, hedge, etc)? 2. Does where the ball screen occur change your coverage (middle vs wing)? 3. What do you look for in your personnel to determine coverage?

Hey ! I have one idea for the right side. We always have blitz coverage. I have always felt that on the right side we are asking them to make a play passing with the left and retreat dribbling. There are things that counter it like a shake action from the same side. But i have found that on the right its been successful. ON the left i have felt that switching up allows us to keep them making choices with the left hand. Forcing them to have to also make a play going to the baseline.
1-1-3
does anyone have some notes on the 1-1-3? we tandem our 2-3 zone just want to improve it when we change the defense!
Interjecting w/o overstepping as an assistant
I have been a head coach for over ten years, however the last two seasons I have been an assistant coach for high school girls. Initially, the head coach assigned me to come up with all inbounds plays, lead our players through Read & React offense(I had run it for almost 8 years prior), press break, and at least one defense that I thought our players could thrive in. We start practice in a week and I was just sent the practice plan for the first practice. It was enough for 3 practices. I asked our HC if I could maybe tinker with it and they were fine with that. Just curious if it will look like I am overstepping when I pair it way back.

I would say it's not wrong but i would ask what his philosophy is when he comes up with a practice plan. understanding the goal of his plan and then combining both what you think and what he has done would only make you guys stronger. Changing without knowing could maybe be too much (if you guys aren't on the same page). Other then that it sounds like you are doing great!
Close outs on Right Side
@Tyler Coston @Frank Fogg LL question—we played 55 games this summer and fall and committed to LL with great success. Invited ball left with on ball and gap D etc and denied reversals as best we could. But inevitably the ball would occasionally make it to right side, where we were a “no middle team, so we wanted the ball to go right and we did a good job of hell the helper. Seems y’all advocate forcing/influencing left even on right side..Seems in a league like ours good guards getting into paint in Trouble! Just curious on your thoughts about no middle on right side, LL on left? Thanks gents!

I think on the right side of you are worried about a great guard i would change my stance on ball. Usually great guards want to get to the left to Pull up, or try to get back right. Being squared will allow you to force a dribble with the left hand and be more physical on the first bounce!! I hope this helps!
