Close outs on Right Side
@Tyler Coston @Frank Fogg LL question—we played 55 games this summer and fall and committed to LL with great success. Invited ball left with on ball and gap D etc and denied reversals as best we could. But inevitably the ball would occasionally make it to right side, where we were a “no middle team, so we wanted the ball to go right and we did a good job of hell the helper. Seems y’all advocate forcing/influencing left even on right side..Seems in a league like ours good guards getting into paint in Trouble! Just curious on your thoughts about no middle on right side, LL on left? Thanks gents!

@Mark Cascio 100% agree…I’d rather close off high on right wing and force baseline, not concede baseline, but influence baseline…..NOT let a good player go left and get two feet in paint…the level of some of our competition paint grabs create problems! Fortunately, we can guard, we close out well…I have a team that likes playing defense! I just haven’t embraced the chase him and chest him when it comes to dribble penetration by a good player from wing to paint…. Make sense?

🤔 What was the biggest lesson you took from last season?
Would love to hear you biggest lesson from last year and how you plan to change in that way this coming season. I'll go first... don't get away from your foundation as the season goes on, ie: getting away from working advantage game and shifting our focus to neutral phase or our opponents. Must continue to sharpen your sword. What about you?

@Mark Cascio Love that acronym
🔥 5v5 Slow Learning
I prefer using 5v5 Slow Learning over 5v0/on air because it eliminates the need for players to imagine the defense. Instead of hoping they "get it," we actively show them what to look for, but allowing more time to process. 5v5 Slow Learning is just one of the many resources available in our Teaching Tools section. Share your thoughts or questions on 5v0/on air or 5v5 Slow Learning in the comments below. @Mark Cascio Maybe it wasn’t a SAVI phrase…But someone said play vs real D more (bones) than you do “on air” (3 v 0, 4 v 0 etc…or cones). Bones vs Cones!😂
