7 courses already!
Big shout-out to @Filip Swennen for already publishing 7 courses here (premium members only). So far we have: - Basics - Kihon - Muchimi: power development - Head punch defense: sashite - Low kick offense - Low kick defense - Knife defense The next course will probably be using the spine. Any courses you'd like for yourself or your students?

Knife 🔪 defense course ready!
In the classroom the knife defense course is ready! https://www.skool.com/rishinjuku-karate-8304/classroom/e09a21eb Most knife 🔪 defense courses are absolute crap. 💩 This one is a little less crappy. 1. A student of mine defended himself successfully against a known criminal who has a knife. We never really trained for that but we spar in many different formats. 2. In this course you learn some stuff to try out in sparring IMMEDIATELY! Have fun and use a mock knife 😅

Nightmares and night terrors
As a kid I have always had trouble sleeping. From not being able to get to sleep to nightmares, night terrors and waking up bathing in sweat yelling 'Madre Maria, Ayuda Me!' (I never learned Spanish but everyone was getting slaughtered in a church) But for the past year I've been really focused on getting 7,5 to 8 hours of sleep per night and it's doing wonders. I do this by tracking my sleep per night, calculating weekly averages. And my training results are noticably better when I slept 8 hours or more when comparing my training logs to my sleep log. Anyone else here a bad sleeper?

I can relate a lot. For me it really started during the COVID period. I wasn’t working at the time because of the covid rules so I lost my job, so I spent most nights learning IT and cybersecurity skills and gaming with neighbors I had just gotten to know. We ended up doing mini‑LAN parties until 6 in the morning, and my whole rhythm flipped. Waking up at 1 PM, gym, studying, and then gaming again until sunrise it completely broke my sleep cycle. Even after COVID, I struggled for a long time to fall asleep at a normal hour. And for some weird reason, even today I can only fall asleep around midnight or 1 AM, even though I used to sleep around 11 PM before all that. So yeah, definitely a former bad sleeper here too.

@Serwan Scheppers I rarely get a full 8 hours of sleep. I usually sleep around 7 hours, and my body has adapted to recoverin on that rhythm.
Consistency is 🔑
The biggest challenge in Martial arts isn't the strength and conditioning, the perfect combination or cross-training six disciplines. It's his do you keep showing up? Through injury. Through life phases. Through good times. Through hard times. How do I trick my brain? When it's telling me the class already started, I'm hurt or something else? It's a part of my identity. If my shoulder hurts I'll train jabs. If I hit my head, I'll slowly train footwork. If I have something to celebrate, it's preferably outside of training hours. If I'm going through something, training is my anchor. If we skip two weeks, the third will be harder to get back in the rhythm. So many hours and weeks wasted on my end because of exams, injuries or something else. Keep training 💪

Thanks for keeping me motivated. Just because one muscle is injured doesn’t mean I can’t train I still have other areas to work on, and consistency is part of my habit.
