It's Friday the 13th. Let's get real. Love isn't just the easy stuff. It's the uncomfortable, inconvenient, "I didn't sign up for this" stuff. What do you do for your family — human or fur baby — that proves your love? The scary stuff: - 2am emergency vet run with a screaming cat - Having the hard money conversation - Sitting through a 3-hour recital and clapping like you loved it - Giving up your weekend for someone else's activity - Driving 6 hours for a 2-hour visit The daily stuff: - Making breakfast when you'd rather sleep in - Morning massages for your significant other — no special occasion needed - Driving kids to practice, games, rehearsals — on repeat - Scooping the litter box... again - Walking the dog when it's freezing outside Big sacrifices. Ever feel like you're running around like a chicken with your head cut off?
Same things on the list. Same fires to put out. And somehow the stuff that actually matters keeps getting pushed to "later." Stephen Covey nailed it in 7 Habits: There's a difference between what's urgent and what's important. Urgent screams at you. Important whispers. Training? Important. Not urgent. Eating right? Important. Not urgent. Breathwork? Important. Not urgent. Nobody's going to call you in a panic because you skipped your workout. But skip it enough and everything else starts breaking down. The fix isn't willpower. It's deciding in advance. When you plan your week before it starts, you protect what matters. When you wait and react? Urgent wins. Every time. This week we talked about negotiations. The ones you have with yourself every morning when the alarm goes off. The ones that drain your confidence when you give in. The ones you shut down when you stay committed. But here's what we haven't talked about yet: The people who make that negotiation easier to win. For me, it's simple: - When I think about Colleen counting on me to stay healthy — making sure not to overdo it - When Spencer needs my help and advice at the academy and in training - Sammi calls to spill the tea and chat about what life is really all about — I need to be present, not on my laptop - When Cookie reminds me life needs play — every night I'm required to throw her toys, or I'm in trouble 😂 The negotiation gets quieter. @Dana T I didn't think this was a "downer" at all. I had a similar experience watching my mother slowly decline. It certainly changes your perspective on a lot of things.
