I Built a Debt Repayment App in Hours Using AI… Here’s Why You Should Watch This 👀
What if you could take a simple Excel idea… and turn it into a fully working app? In this short video, I walk you through exactly how I: - Designed a debt repayment calculator for advisory work - Built a powerful Excel model comparing Snowball vs Avalanche methods - Then transformed it into a clean, interactive app with sliders, charts and client views - Used the right AI tools at each stage instead of relying on just one If you work with clients who are in debt… this is serious advisory opportunity. Most accountants stop at spreadsheets. But imagine being able to: - Show clients visually how overpayments change outcomes - Compare strategies instantly - Deliver something that feels modern and high value That changes the conversation. And in the video, I also explain why choosing the right AI tool for the job makes all the difference. If you want the full process, step by step, I’m going deeper on this in the live webinar on WEDNESDAY. 👉 Book your place here Now I’m curious… 💬 What Excel spreadsheets do you currently use in your firm that could be turned into something more powerful? Drop them below.Your idea might become the next demo I build.

@Mark Wickersham Thank for the endorsement. Yes, I've started exploring some of the new AI tools available for Excel and as you say the results are staggering. I've yet to properly try out vibe coding but eager to see what can be done.

@Mark Wickersham From the screenshot it looks like the scenario section of dashboard is interactive. If that's right I'm seriously impressed; I've not seen ChatGPT used to produce results like that before.
🖼️ GPT-5 Struggles with Text in Images
Here’s something important to know if you’re creating images in ChatGPT. I ran the same prompt in two models: - GPT-5 → full of spelling mistakes ❌ - GPT-4o (legacy) → perfect text ✅ 👉 Tip: When you need images that include text (like posters, social posts, or graphics), switch to one of the legacy models in your settings. They handle text much more accurately than GPT-5. 📸 (See both examples below)

Is there also an issue with including calculations in images? In both examples the Balance Sheet and Income Statement arithmetic is all over the place.

@Mark Wickersham Sorry! After a lifetime of accounting I can't see a set of numbers without feeling an irresistible urge to add them up.
❓ Not happy with GPT-5? Here’s how to get the old models back
If you’ve tried GPT-5 and it’s not quite clicking for you, there’s good news… you can still access the older models. OpenAI has kept them available for Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users—you just have to switch them on. How to do it: 1. Go to your ChatGPT settings (on web) 2. Find General > Show legacy models 3. Toggle it on You’ll then see the older models available again in your model selector. 📸 (I’ll add a screenshot below so you know exactly what to look for) Have you tried GPT-5 yet? Do you prefer it… or are you switching back to one of the older models?

@Mark Wickersham Yes, I'd be interested to see what Agent can produce. I don't think I have access to it? I used your Industry and Business Strategic Research prompt and asked GPT5 to look at https://therockfish.co.uk My real worry is that if I can spot problems when GPT5 is reporting on a niche and market I know reasonably well, how can I trust its responses when researching a business or industry I'm unfamiliar with? I could potentially make myself look very foolish. For clarification Rockfish are not my clients but I'm familiar with their business and I have a good idea who their real competitors are and the business challenges they face.

@Mark Wickersham Thank you, this is very much better. I know 5 of these competitors and I agree with ChatGPT's assessments. If I was being picky I'd want to add that Rockfish also competes for customers with non-seafood establishments including food-led pubs, Wetherspoons and a couple of Michelin-starred restaurants. But I can't see any inaccuracies with the information presented. In the meantime I've re-run the original prompt using GPT-5 Thinking (which wasn't available during my earlier attempts). This gave me a better result - the competitors listed were actual seafood businesses - but it wasn't hot on geography; including Rick Stein's restaurant empire based in N Cornwall and another business based on the Lancashire coast. It all feels a bit hit and miss. I'd be happy to use the better results for internal research but very wary of incorporating them into a report for presentation to a client or prospect.
💬 Thinking About Starting Your Own Community?
Last month, I hosted a livestream all about the power of communities—especially why accounting firm owners should seriously consider building one of their own. If you missed it, I walked through: - Why community-building is such a powerful positioning tool - How platforms like Skool make it surprisingly easy to get started - What I’ve learned running my own communities - Real examples of how accountants can use community to deepen client relationships, offer group programs, or even add a new revenue stream 🎥 You can catch the replay here. 💡 Here’s my offer to you: If you decide to start your own Skool community using my affiliate link, I’ll go a step further… ✅ I’ll also personally help guide you through the setup process, via a private course within this community, including the AI prompts I use to save time. 💼 Use my affiliate link here. Got questions about running a community, the Skool platform, or how this could fit into your business model? 👇 Drop them in the comments—I’m happy to help!

That's a great offer @Mark Wickersham I plan to migrate from Kajabi to Skool, largely because the Kajabi communities have an unfriendly set up process and UX. And nobody wants an unfriendly community! The only disadvantage I can see is it doesn't look like Skool has a facility for discount codes. I'd like to give discounted membership to some people but it looks like that isn't possible?
