@Miriam Schiro on Miriam!! YES- you are soooo right!! This truly doesn’t do much for a child as far as teaching them responsibility because let’s face it, once the novelty wears off, who is caring for the pup or kitty and doing all that’s needed to ensure he is healthy and happy??- the parents. I’ve seen this time and again. I do think it’s wonderful to have a fur baby in the home so children can learn compassion, love, caring etc towards animals (and of course we would teach them to extend that compassion towards all animals).. And I feel Its such a mutual love felt between kids and companion animals. But the responsibility needs to be in the hands of the adults. Children can assist and asked to put food into a bowl, feed, and simple tasks like that. But I also don’t think a child should be walking dogs on their own. Whenever I see that I cringe as a kid isn’t capable of handling certain situations should they occur (and many do occur). So I’m with you. Gifting an animal to anyone isn’t the best decision. I believe if someone wants a fur baby, they should take a trip to a shelter or rescue and adopt that animal. It should be their decision and they should be fully capable AND committed to taking care of this being for his entire life. So any or all of what I mentioned can be discussed. Some people will just be closed minded and refuse to see an alternative perspective 😮💨- something we are accustomed to, right?? But it seems like all you’ve offered is legit, good & valid. I feel like it is more the person on the receiving end not wanting to receive that information because of their choices and beliefs.❤️🙏🏼 Thank you for always speaking up!
