Walked around my yard and sat on my back porch for about 45 min yesterday after work. Took a beautiful close up pic of a dandelion. Captured my first butterfly video of the season.
April is Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month. And there's a reason it gets an entire month. We are learning more and more about how stress affects our bodies — everything from our mood to our risk of heart disease. In medicine, we don't always talk enough about the mind-body connection. But it is real. The tricky part? Sometimes you have to slow down just to realize it's been getting to you. Some of the subtle signs: irritability that seems to come out of nowhere. That feeling like you constantly need to move faster. Trouble sleeping. Digestive issues you've just accepted as normal. Noticing is the first step. One tool I love for this — and that you already have — is the 12 Days of Joy in the Classroom. It was built around exactly this: using small joy moments to regulate your nervous system. Revisit it anytime. We'll be talking about stress all month long. But let's start here — Are there any ways you notice stress in your body?

Can’t focus.
Thursday Check in
Stress shows up in our bodies and takes a toll on our long term health. Perimenopause and menopause can heighten our response to stress because our cortisol regulation is decreased. Daily practice is the key to regulating our stress. I thought it would be great to do a mindfulness challenge next week. Would that be helpful?

I’ve been chained to my desk all week, up super late on three nights preparing for presentations, exhausted and stressed. This evening, after returning from an afternoon of fun at the dentist, instead of sitting back at my desk, I went outside to work in my yard. My planned 30 minutes turned into two hours. Weeding, setting up one of my water barrels, chopping down some more weeds, and just getting dirty and moving my body - while listening to a homesteading book. Despite still being exhausted (after only three hours of sleep last night), I also feel invigorated. A good reminder that getting some dirt under my nails and returning to nature is always a joyful reset to my mental well being. Hopefully will contribute to a good night of sleep too. 😁

Let's choose a time to meet. We can alternate month to month. If none of these times work, suggest another time.

Fridays are usually a bit less crazy for me. But looks like I didn’t see this poll until too late. :)
Savoring
My daily savor activity is my morning coffee. Everything from choosing my mug to grinding the beans and enjoying the first sip. Do you have a favorite moment during your day that you savor? I would love to hear about it.

In the Spring & Summer I love to sit out on my patio first thing in the morning and just take in some sunshine for a few minutes before the crazy of the day begins. I don't get to do it very often.
