Golden Nugget - I can do big scary things
As I was pondering my week this week I am reminded about the the first Type 1 fire that I was Agency Administer (AA) for working for the State of Utah. I was responsible for wildland fire on State or Private Lands. I had been in my position for a couple of months and then the Pole and Bald Mtn. Fires had started up by Spanish Fork. The Area Manager for that Area was new also and 2 Type 1 fires is a lot to handle so I was asked to go up and be AA for the Pole Creek Fire. This was my second fire as being an AA and the first one was small in comparison. I had to drive from Richfield to Spanish Fork seeing that big column of smoke knowing that was the dragon that I had to slay. Overwhelming is an understatement. I had made it to this position through the logistical side of fire I did not have the experience in operations. The Governor was showing up everyday wanting that fire put out. The adrenal glands were working the entire drive I felt every heartbeat. However, I figured I had the tools in my tool box. I knew that big fires are not put out alone. It takes a team of people and I knew that there were going to be people there and I was bringing my Fire Management Officer. There would be operational experience. All I had to do is be willing to listen to them. Fighting the fire was a challenge. We had 7 days of "Red Flag" conditions which means it was hot dry and windy. Each day we had the news, the governor, and the public asking why we were not doing more. For 7 days we got our butts kicked by the fire the public that wanted back in their homes etc. But do you know what we did? We showed up on day 8. We got a break in the weather, we were able to put in some line, the previous 7 days were defensive and day 8 we went on offensive. Within a couple of days we had enough line built that we could lift evacuations, the governor lost interest or had bigger battles to fight. We kept working and eventually we put out the fire. Finding this community reminds me of that experience. There's people in this group that have experience that I don't have that I need to listen to. I have what I need in me to learn and grow and have the power to slay any dragon in front of me. Working together we can accomplish great missions.

Well this will probably be part of it. My keynote is that you can do much more that you think you can do. I have achieved way more that I ever thought possible while facing huge challenges. Mindset matters!
Hot Seat Call
Loved today's call! It inspired me because I came away feeling more confident even though I didn't speak, I felt confident because I saw that I have things to share with people that can uplift and inspire. Thank you @Kristy Hunter for speaking today. Loved it!

I felt that as well.
What's your favorite End of year tradition?
Each person has something that they do with loved ones at towards the end if each year and I want to know what's that for you? For me, I love Christmas morning waking up and for breakfast having Monkey Bread (cinnamon dough bread).

My Grandma started a tradition that she gave us a special ornament each year. My mom has continued the tradition. So we look at the ornaments and tell stories of forgotten times. Remember the good years and the bad. The ornaments tells tales of joy, strength, and reliance. Each ornament has a story and we try to keep passing them down.
