C64 & Christmas
With Christmas fast approaching what memories do you have of your 64 and Christmas. Did you receive your 64 or games as a Christmas present? I had my 64 as my main present in 1984. I remember getting Little Computer People, Koronis Rift & Scarabaeus the following Christmas and Labyrinth the Christmas after that. I always looked forward to the Christmas issue of Zzap64. And who can forget the Commodore Christmas demo! To me Christmas and the 64 have always gone hand in hand.

I think it will be a special topic for everyone where you can show games or other things which are mostly less known for users of Commodore 64. I'll start here with two games I've found recently: - Nether Earth - Its a real time strategy game which is "the Command and and conquer of the 80's" by someone. "Nether Earth is a realtime strategy game that takes place in the distant future. A war is being waged between humans and ancient race of aliens called Insignian. On their mysterious planet there are four bases to capture - Kerberus, Tarras, Faretra and Diolkos. Use factories to build giant battle robots, similar to Mech units in other games. Commanding robots, capturing factories and defeating enemies in realtime are the player's primary goals. The player controls a small flying robot, instead of mouse cursor. With this robot the player can enter a factory to design unique battle robot from parts like wheels, antigrav, radar, laser gun or nuclear weapons. After that the player has to command the robot. Artificial intelligence works well at first, but in tough times it is possible to control the robot manually. As the balance of power changes with each conquered base, the player must also adjust strategies and tactics." @Mayhem Chaosinsky very nice, I have the advert with this artwork ready for framing. I do really like the original Electronic Arts artwork as well though!

@Mayhem Chaosinsky Matt I’ve seen your contributions of the Vectrex fans unite! FB page. That’s a very impressive collection. It’s such a great unique console.

@Peter Badrick I agree about the mini, but if it gets more people to play & appreciate Vectrex games it can only have a positive effect on development for it. The cost of original consoles is just prohibitive for some so it’s a good introduction. A kind of gateway drug 🤣
Great New Game
Zezito in the Glittering Caves is a fantastic new game in memory of Jason Kelk of Cosine fame. It's like a cross between Manic Miner and Miner 2049er / Bounty Bob. Collect the diamonds, pick up the paint and roller to colour in the land then escape before time runs out. Great graphics, awesome music and amazing gameplay. I'm hooked! https://iapetus2019.itch.io/zezito-in-the-glittering-caves

I’ve only just got around to having a play of this. What a great little game. It’s got a nice visual style with its hi-res graphics. A game like this lives or dies on its controls and they are really tight. I particularly like the jump mechanic where you can move in mid air. Definite Bounty Bob vibes with a look of Manic Miner. I’ll definitely be playing this some more!
What's your thoughts on Spy vs Spy 3?
Personally, Spy vs Spy 2 was my fave, but most likely because I'd played it before the first one, which I think most people would say is the best, and certainly most challenging. I remember when I first played the 3rd one, I pretty much instantly dismissed it. I'm not sure if it was because it lacked the atmosphere of the others, or because it just felt like more of the same. However, I played it again yesterday with an open mind and it's actually quite good fun. It's a shame it was a bit of a commercial flop, as apparently there was a 4th one planed which was going to be in space. This makes sense as in the 3rd one, when you complete the level, you get in a rocket and blast vertically out of the screen. What's your thoughts on this game or any of the others in the series?

@Phil Wheatley it’ll always be the first one for me. That was the one I played first with my mates and I liked the fact you could fight your opponent to buy you some space and pinch their items without removing them from the game with them respawning somewhere else. The fact you could kill off your opponent in the 2nd & 3rd made the fighting pointless as it effectively ended the game. I like the environment of the 2nd game and even the third one looks great but it’s too similar to the previous games for its own good! It needed some new game mechanics to give it its own identity. Still love the series though!

@Phil Wheatley definitely especially if they had introduced some new game mechanics with it being set in space, such as weightlessness due to no gravity etc.
