Anoxic brain injury
56 y/o male with M.I. needed a CABG x4. Patient had difficulty breathing, was intubated and subsequently had a trach. Pt presented like a stroke patient. L side weakness, some word finding issues. Decreased trunk control and ataxic like movements. Patient DID NOT have a stroke. He looks more like an anoxic brain injury. Thoughts???

Was there brain damage due to lack of oxygen?

@Mario Ruiz was that the reason?
Stroke
A little case study. I completed an eval on a 56 year old who had a Right MCA branch blocked. Had interventional radiology remove the clot, however, he had a massive stroke after the procedure. Pt has left side upper extremity weakness Possible L side neglect Follows very concrete one step directions, but not consistently. Uses thumb up or down Morbid obese Trach PEG tube What types of recovery would you expect from the patient? If you are the therapist, what would you work on? There are no wrong answers, Let's discuss.

@Mario Ruiz Im still a young student, however I would test L UE/LE strength using STREAM. working on bed mobility, Supine<>sit. Same with testing for L side neglect. Could he only communicate with the thumb up or down?
