Hive mind input on my one-line pitch please!
Am starting the process of sending queries to agents and wondered if you guys could comment on some pitch ideas: A strong-willed, self-reliant old woman struggles against the weakening of her powers as she gradually loses her memory. Judy, a furiously independent old woman, battles the loss of identity and control of her deteriorating memory. (feels like there might be some grammar issue here!) The novel follows Judy, an independent, aging widow, from the early, mysterious signs of memory loss to her death. Something like that - my, I find this stuff difficult! All ideas gratefully accepted. And huge thanks in advance.

@Jonathan Mark Bayliss Yes, this is pretty much the formula I’ve seen in advice to querying authors as well. The author Rónán Hession (who wrote ‘Leonard and Hungry Paul’, among other novels) has a very refreshing take on the ‘obsession’ in Western literature with conflict and how it is supposed to shape character and narrative. He says that reading translated fiction from other cultures has given him a very different understanding of story; it’s not necessarily all about conflict. MG Historical help, please?
My latest WIP is another MG Historical, while I query my first ms. I've had a few rejections from agents, with a couple kindly stating that "MG Historical is a hard place right now." Does anyone know of any agents/indie publishers that might be interested in this area, so I'm not banging my head against a brick wall? It is with Penguin WriteNow and a couple of competitions, as I really do believe in this one, but I'd like to get an agent one day!

@Juno Baker thank you from me too, Juno! You've prompted me to order the latest Mslexia guide. Have you also heard that historical fiction is a bit of a difficult sell at the moment, or do you think it depends on the sub-genre and whether you're already a known author? I've written my first historical novel, inspired by a true family story, but I'm wondering whether the market has had enough of Victorian English crime for the moment ;-)
