sennheiser 441 on vocals anyone?
What is your first impulse in choosing a mic down to the volume knob I use an Sennheiser 441 for tracking guitar up front and close on speaker along with an U87 type for clarity in room ambience and or sparkle (angle and side chain depending on source and goal). I will also at times sum these two signals on a bus for parallel effects with an focusrite red with very easy settings... this is my starter arsenal on tracking 80% of the time. What do yall have and or prefer right off the bat?

I'm Clif Duncan...
A lot of you know me but there are so many new folks here now and with the big move of the Membership platform and it's new name I thought I might reintroduce myself... I am an Audio Engineer and Author in my fifties working towards making a second career, running my own company, remastering music & writing. I am learning how to confidently and effectively produce, mix and master multi-track music on the computer using the Studio One Pro 7 DAW. I am in the "Membership Club" at Mastering.com and I hope, soon join their "The Reverse Engineer" audio course. Looking back now, I have spent 38 years, professionally in various realms of customer service. I was a Lead and Trainer at the Astronaut training facilities here in Houston, more precisely, working at the NASA Visitor Center at The Johnson Space Center for The Manned Spaceflight Education Foundation for almost a decade, I taught Public Speaking to Tour Guides and was ultimately second in command in the Management team there. I have recently retired from a 20 year long career as a City Library Clerk in the Circulation Department at the Public Library in Friendswood Texas. I have spent much of my free time recently, redefining who I am, not just professionally but spiritually. Like never before, I feel in touch with the god-fire energy of the soul, connected to all things and my life is truly and powerfully my own. I am emboldenly and daily, grateful for my connection to the Universe ...to God. I am happily divorced, but actively seeking my someone, maybe that soul-mate to share soul romance and the rest of a lifetime together with in the now and the future ahead of us. I have a 21 year old daughter, who is now attending college in Austin, Texas at St. Edwards University. I am currently writing a non-fiction book about manifesting the here and now and the better futures we all deserve. Connecting the dreams of the past to those of today, I studied Audio Engineering in Community College here, in the Houston area back in the 1990's. The goal for me in the day was to work in the Music Business.

I really liked the MAAT meter. Limiter/PAZ stress test was a good review for identifying balance and excess frequency issues before applying mastering techniques. And thanks again for not just geeking us out but reminding us of the "why?" we do this audio engineering thing ;^)
Mastering Demystified starts Monday!
Hey everyone! We're hosting a free 2-day event next week called “Mastering Demystified”. Over 2 days you will learn the fundamentals of mastering. More importantly, you'll learn how to THINK like a mastering engineer to reverse engineer the entire production process. It’s completely free and virtual — all you have to do is register by clicking the link below. Even if you can’t attend live, replays will be sent out to all those who register. Starts Monday, Nov 24th, 9am Pacific/12pm Eastern/5pm UK time. You can find the event here in Skool in the Calendar tab, or click below to go straight there and it to your personal calendar: https://www.skool.com/mastering/calendar?eid=ac46dc971e6245609076b111c728fe08 See you there... this is gonna be a good one! @Mailin Herbst You can zoom in Zoom using the keyboard shortcut keys Ctrl+ or Ctrl- on windows. I used the "pinch" function on my laptop touch pad and hold click on my mouse to move around the screen. But yeah would be nice to zoom in on the replays.🎵 Hope this helps🎶

Become a pro mastering engineer
Hey everyone, hope you learned a ton during the event this week! Day 2 replay is uploading now and will be in Classroom shortly. We made a special announcement on the webinar today that I also wanted to share here. In short, we wanted to do something special for Black Friday. So... We're officially opening up The Reverse Engineer: Foundations for new students, with 50% off! In just 6 months, we'll turn you into a professionally trained mastering engineer so you can: - Easily identify what's missing from ANY mix (no more wondering "what's missing?") - Get more confidence & satisfaction from your music - Start getting paid to master music for clients A matter of months from now, you’ll have mastery over the technical, scientific side of music production. That means when you produce or mix music, you’ll be able to stay in a state of total creative flow... which not only leads to a better end result but also makes the entire process more fun. It also means you’ll have 100% clarity on the end goal you’re shooting for, which will give you more confidence throughout the entire music-making journey. All the info is on this page: https://go.mastering.com/tref-checkout Hope to see some of you inside! Cheers, Rob P.S. If price is a consideration for you, this is one of the best investments you could make in yourself without breaking the bank.
