Financials
One of my main questions right now is how much people are realistically spending to get their books out there? Especially if you're more “low middle class,” living close to paycheck to paycheck, and don’t have $10,000 sitting around to invest. Are you financing it? Saving slowly and waiting couple years to launch? Just doing what you can and hope for the best? I mean this across all areas, so I put in general discussion category.

@Christina Hirsh I forgot about copyright, trademark, websites, promo materials and some other things. I have self funded my work for 6 years by selling everything I own. I had some money from an inheritance when I lost my mom. 😔😔😔😔😔 I spent every ounce of it and then some because I live for this cause and will never retire on purpose. The cause is what I live for. The cause involves a multi million dollar transformational vision to Reimagine Child Welfare for our most vulnerable kids. I am operating in the red still but there is real opportunity for that to turn around soon. TBD. I haven't sold many books at all but that is because my book tells people they have blocks and no one wants to be told they have blocks. 🙃 They do though. 😀💝 It makes the most perfect case in supporting my mission though so it works well for me for that reason alone. The world is distracted like never before so if you want to write a book you need to know why you are writing it and be solving problems people want solved. You also will have to build the awareness, momentum, branding and so much more potentially. There are people who do this conservatively but getting attention is HARD unless you are solving real problems that people care about and are putting in the effort to get your message in front of those people. We live at a time where knowledge doubles fast so that needs to be factored in. The human side and stories are always what differentiate but truth be told I am not a reader so I rarely buy books. I am not the best person to ask probably. Writing this book was SO SO HARD once I learned about what went into doing it well but it now gives me the authority to make my case for why we fail vulnerable kids while spending billions to create momentum for change to emerge. Julie has so much content in her books, videos, and so on to guide you on all the ways to think about these things. What is your book about Christina?

It's Not About Book Marketing Anymore ...
With Authors Empire Workshop right around the corner I'm really tightening my thinking on 'book marketing' and shifting it almost entirely to 'authority building'. You see - book marketing puts the focus on launch plans, social posts, ads, podcast pitches, and short bursts of promotion. And when sales slow down, authors assume they need to “market harder.” And what we have seen in 8.5 years is that it doesn't work for the majority of authors. What does work? When you see your book not as a product you promote, but rather an asset you build upon. That’s what this flywheel represents. Instead of asking, “How do I sell more books?” the better question is, “How does this book strengthen my authority so everything gets easier?” And "What else can I do to build my authority with this book?" It starts with clarifying the entity. Who are you in the market? What do you stand for? What problem do you own? Then you activate that authority by aligning your assets. Your messaging, your platforms, your positioning all need to point in the same direction. Next, you package it. Structure your presence so people understand your expertise quickly and clearly. Then you ignite it. Expand your influence through speaking, media, community, and partnerships. Finally, it compounds. Credibility builds on credibility. Visibility leads to more visibility. Opportunities multiply. That’s the flywheel as we are seeing it now. Book marketing is a push. Authority is a system. The real question is not how you’re promoting your book. It’s whether your book is strengthening your authority. Where are you in this flywheel right now? By the way - the flywheel works the best when you plan for it right from the moment you start thinking about writing a book.

This was what I said was my plan 1 year ago and it is starting to accelerate now.

@Julie Broad TY. I have rattled every cage in the nucleus of its power center. The pressure legit nearly killed me this week but I'm still here rattling and won't stop until it does take me out or we fix this mess of epic proportions.
Community Building
This question is not about books per se, but the communities we build with them. I want to create a community around one of my products, which is linked to my next book. I have no idea if anyone will be interested in joining the community. It would be free, but only for those who have purchased the product. It is not for book readers but for people who purchased the upsell associated with the book (about $200). It would not be open to the public and would be free for purchasers. I am looking for an easy and inexpensive way to test interest. Skool at the Hobby level seems like a good approach. Other options I'm considering are Circle and Mighty Networks. And maybe Discord. I want a place where people can ask questions, post answers, and support each other - just like here. But only private. @Julie Broad I'm curious why you chose Skool. Is it because it can be both public and upgraded to private communities? Did you consider Circle or others? Thanks!

The message isn't clear yet my friend.
Movie Rights?
Great news, everyone! Be a Nerd That Talks Good is going to get turned into a movie! Jennifer Lawrence, a Cinematic Director at Film 14 and Apple Studios, just reached out to tell me that my book has "cinematic potential!" I guess you'd better jump on the bandwagon and buy the book now, so you can say you knew me before my big fame blow-up! 😂

AV Speaker Pro Tips
Hi all. Do any of you authors that do speaking engagements have any pro tips to minimize AV mess ups? Sessions would be for training 80 leaders during breakout sessions. I'm trying to decide how specific I want to be about: Mics Screens for PowerPoint or flip charts Workbooks and so on... My goal is to: 1. minimize tech issues and complications 2. deliver high value and engaging sessions without unnecessary noise and nonsense 3. provide empowerment, education and entertainment that sticks ( that's on me but if you've observed or experienced this- let me know- I have plenty of ideas however) Thanks!! And Happy Thanksgiving a little early.
