Classroom Sizes
Hey guys! What sizes do you try to keep your kidmin classes? Right now we divide up the following way: nursery (6-23 months), toddler (2-3), prek/k, and 1st-5th. I am starting to feel like we are pushing the upper limits of how many kids we should have in these classrooms and may be needing to add an additional classroom or two- which space will be challenging. But, I am curious what the rule of thumb is for the number of kids in each small group setting. Thanks so much!

for our rooms, we have the following capacities: 0-11 mo: 4 1s: 8 2s: 8 3s: 10 4s: 12 5s: 12 Kinder - 2nd: 12 3rd - 6th: 8 for us, it depends on the size of the classroom and how many kids can reasonably be in the room at one time. I've always asked for feedback from my team if there are too many kids and these are the numbers I've found to work well for us!
Fun Training Ideas
I’m hosting my first training in my new position and while there is a lot of information to go over, I also want to make it fun and engaging! One idea I had was to do a Kahoot quiz with some of the policies we need to review. What fun things do you did in your trainings that volunteers enjoy? Have any ice breakers that are crowd favorite?

one year I did some "most likely to" awards and it was a hit! I had a lot of fun with it, and it got to show people other's quirks!
Incident Reports
Hello! I'm trying to evaluate our incident report process. Right now, we have the classroom teacher fills out what happened *if* there is an injury with a marking. Depending on the injury, we'll page a parent and let them know. All parties sign the report form. If you have an incident report form, could you share it? What does your process for injuries look like? Thank you!!
Kids Ministry Structure Question
Hey! Would anyone be willing to share a brief overview of how your Kids Ministry team is structured and what the different roles on your team look like? It would be incredibly helpful as we think through how to best support our staff, volunteers, and families. Can you also tell me how many kids you have on a Sunday? Thank you so much for your time and willingness to share. I truly appreciate it!

Hey Molly! Our church has about 150 members, roughly ~200 adults on a Sunday morning. A normal Sunday for us looks like 50-60 kids! Right now we have 7 classrooms broken down like so: 0-11mo (max 6) 1s (max 8) 2s (max 8) 3s (max 10) 4s (max 10) 5s (max 12) 6s-11s (Elementary ages) (max 12) We have 1 service that runs about 85-90 minutes. For each service, I have 2 team members in each classroom, 1 coordinator who runs the service, and at least 2 in check-in. We have 2 junior volunteers who serve as well, but I don't count them towards our adult ratios. Our team serves on a 3 week rotation - serving 1 week then 2 weeks off. We've had this structure for about a year now and it's worked really well for us. Our people get to sit in service more, which is a win! Sometimes this means closing classrooms and combining ages, but it's worth it to us. When one team member can't serve, I ask if they can serve on another week during that month!
Welcome to the Spring Cohort 2026!
