@Phillip Patterson Hey Phil, Great question on the laptop. I did have a laptop that I used for recording, in my apartment that was running windows 98 that got damaged in 2018 that I lost in my apartment fire. Lost all my studio gear, PA rack, as I was running everything into a Allen Heath 16 channel Mix Wizard into my Gadget Labs 8x8 interface. Old stuff. LOL It was running Cakewalk back then. Peace Brother.
I recorded the wrong stuff!
Last night, my band had a rehearsal and I wanted to record it with just 1 mic in the room. I set up the project correctly, placed the mic in a good spot, checked the level. Everything looked good. I hit the record button and we started going down the playlist. Then after the rehearsal I took a good ear break and then listened back and all I got was the batter head of the kick drum. Lol 🤣 Turns out that I had forgotten to repatch the room mic cable to the interface. Have any of you ever done this? I have decided to make myself a checklist and go through it step by step every time I record anything to prevent this problem from happening again in the future. What are your thoughts? Hope this helps. 🤠

Same here. I record 32 channels at our rehearsal. Last one, we took a break and I went to look at the computer and it had shut down and I had to restart it. Lost that hour of playing. LOL Thats ok because we were running through our set for the Rock for Tots show we are doing in Detroit, to see if our time fits in the time slot we were giving. LOL
Drum samples.
Is there anyone making their own drum samples? I am making my own by recording the sound of each drum, each cymbal, each rim shot, hi hats open, closed, each shaker (I have lots of them), each cowbell, rattler, soon to be also a Cabasa, and all the notes on the glockenspiel as well as the double-row chimes. Once done with recording, I'll go through and do all the editing and all that other fun stuff that the samples need. This is gonna be a fun project to do. It's an 8 piece set of DW Concept Maple with all new Evans heads along with a 9 piece set of Zildjian Avedis cymbals and other various percussion instruments. Any suggestions on how to make dis happen? Should I bake in the panning information for each track or should I leave them in mono? What would you do? I'd love to hear your opinion. 🤠

@Jason Flaherty For my kick I am using the Shure Beta 91A Condenser Boundary Microphone inside the kick sitting on a blanket, a Shure PGA52 in the hole of the head and then the DW The Moon Mic almost on the head. SM57s, top and bottom of the snare, SM57s top and bottom of the hi-hat, Shure PGA56s on the toms, and Shure PGA81s for overheads. (No, I am not sponsored by Shure. LOL)
Recording weird things.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever recorded? I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours. Lol 🤣. Mine was flies buzzing around a dog turd. It was for background sound effects at a Halloween party.

So...I owned an Ensoniq esq-1 sampler and back in the day, I was in a Pink Floyd cover band (1990s did not have tribute bands LOL) We were working on "the Wall" album and we did not sequence or backing tracks so I recorded (sampled) things like "look mummy, there's an airplane up in the sky" and put it on a sound floppy disk so all I would have to do was press a certain key and it would play back that track. I still own that keyboard, LOL Fun Stuff.

Me and my band have a song that we released. It was suggested to Donald Trump for his entrance song but it was not done in time for him to use it. LOL. Any PR is good PR, right? LOL
