🏆 Shout-out to Matthew Dixon
@Matthew Dixon I asked what you charged for your last one-off mow. Matthew answered with a number and a photo: $80, done the same day. That's the right way to price an overgrown one-off. Charge for the mess, not just the mow. 💪 What's the worst lawn you've quoted this year? Drop the price below 👇

@Stuart Clifford 350 dollars for heavy clearing on a 700sqm section approx but that included dump fees and transfer so not making much on that given how long it took really. Only did it at that price because they agreed to sign on as a regular post clearing. And yes buggered a mower blade doing it.

@Stuart Clifford the usual fortnightly with some seasonal tree and hedge work once a year
"Am I leaving money on the table, or undercutting?" 💸
Saw this in the group this week. Most guys answer it by checking what the other guy charges. That's backwards. Start with your own numbers. Say you want $2,000 a week. Half of that goes on running costs. Fuel, maintenance, tax, and gear. So you take home $1,000. $2,000 over a 40-hour week is $50 an hour. But you won't mow 40 hours. There's driving, quoting, fuelling up, changing blades, and fixing stuff. You'll be lucky to get 6.5 hours of actual mowing in a day. So you need $60 an hour just to hit the number. That's why I would recommend that you quote at least $1 a minute. 🕐 Guess the time, then multiply. 30 minutes lawn = $30. Then add hills, trees, catching, and mess. ⏱️ Time the first mow. If it keeps taking longer than you quoted, put the price up. 🚫 Have a minimum. Mine is $35 for a regular mow and $60 for a one-off. If they say no, you've saved yourself the drive. 🗣️ Say it like you mean it. Give the price, then stop talking. Most people are fine with your price if you are. You're running a business, not a charity. What do you charge per minute? Have you worked it out, or are you going off the guy down the road?

Mine is about there too. 65/h for regular on average, some a bit higher. Once offs I've generally landed much higher rates (75-85) but they seem to come seasonally round here (November, December) when renters want to get their bond back before moving out and they need the gardens sorted and they're pressured for time.
3 weekly lawn mowing service in peak season?
Someone asked for a 3 weekly lawn mowing service quote in the peak season, what to do here and how to price this, ideally we want weekly or fortnightly service in peak season and the 3 weekly to monthly services are for winter season.

Same as the above. You can schedule weekly and fortnightly together naturally. You throw 3 weekly in and you've made blank spaces you then can't fill with more weekly and fortnightly.
Bizza Lead System from Jims Mowing
is it worth doing the Bizza Lead System from Jims Mowing ? They want to charge you $25 per lead regardless if you get it or not

Know 2 guys down my way who were trying Bizza for a while last year. We've got one Jim's frachise down here also. They told me all they ever got was leads for once off jobs never people looking for regular mowing - not sure if that's the norm or not. Both eventually went back to just paper ads and local noticeboards, said it cost too much for what you got because it was only ever once offs.
Everyone wants me to look at their property first
What do you do when clients ask you to look at their property first? I can't be going out to tons of houses that might be out of my abilities for free. Thanks!

@Ken Dalman not sure where you are but I'd say in NZ / OZ doing a site visit and then quoting is fairly common and lots of clients ask for it (there's a few guys I've seen that do online quotes off google maps for just mowing jobs) but the norm is still mostly visiting I think especially if the clients wants other things done beyond just mowing.
