Installing actions for 12U
Good evening, Last year in our 11U AAU season we installed the fingers cut and swing option in 8 weeks of practices in games. Considering the short period, I though they did very well. I'm looking forward to building on that this season. During the rec season which just ended, I just finished coaching a 7th/8th(13/14) grade team in which we installed the same thing and man what difference. Both teams have some talented kids but 1-2 years makes a huge difference in the way they flowed in and out of the fingers cut motion. To break up the same motion we ran a play called "X" where it gave the racker an option to either call the porch up to run a get or to run zoom by a DHO to same side corner followed by the opposite porch swinging over to the same side slot to set the screen(just below the elbow). We installed this playing playing 5 on 3 and then 5 on 4 which really helped with getting them to really look for the advantage and it encourage a lot of back door cuts or 45 dives. So now I'm about to start the AAU back up as 12U and outside of working on what weve already learned, I feel like I need to create stations in practice where we focus on spacing in 3 on 3 and what two(start with) options do we have every time we move the ball. For instance, racker at right action spot, lock in right corner, porch comes over to post(foul line). If the ball enters the post from the racker, give them options based on their defender(get, cut, split action with dragon, or pindown to same side corner). And then you eventually lead into slips/ghost handoffs etc. Has anyone used a similar or better way to handle blending free play with the fingers cut action? Thanks, George
Drive and Space Actions and Triggers
What sorts of actions and triggers does everyone use in their offense? Particularly beyond the basic Fan/Fingers series stuff. I'm wanting to implement some splits and gets and wanted some ideas on what others are doing and how they are triggering those actions beyond the initial slot to slot pass.

@Steve Henderson Thanks for the insight. Its appreciated. So youre using fan to swing the corner up to the nail..correct? The question I have is the flow between fingers and fan. Once you cross the street, does the receiving action spot need to make a read on the passer to see if he cuts away before the receiver goes into swing to the corner blast cutting up on the same side? So far weve only really installed fingers cut and swing and Im trying to blend chin or some zoom action. Im just caught up on the transition.
Families of Actions
Not sure if this is “new” content, but I put together my own presentation on families of actions. Defining it, understanding it conceptually, and providing some examples. If anyone wants to give it a gander and give me any feedback that would be great. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/11P0bbiwDd2oBDvRHL65gGqgM3n3IsNi8iPafW0j3bo0/edit

@Matt Burrows Thank you!
🤔 What One Coaching Mistake Have You Learned the Most From?
As coaches, we all face moments where things don’t go as planned. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn aka the best lessons come from our biggest mistakes. Whether it’s a decision made in the heat of the moment you would do differently, a missed opportunity, or something off the court you wish you could redo, reflecting on these moments can be key to growing as a coach. We want to hear about the coaching mistake that taught you the most. What happened? How did it impact your team or your approach? And most importantly, how did that experience change the way you coach moving forward? Sharing these stories not only helps us all grow, but it’s also a reminder that even the best coaches learn from their setbacks. 💡 Looking forward to hearing your insights! 👇👇👇

@Evan Grantham In AAU(12U), we rarely face teams that will play a zone. In the last few years we haven't faced it enough to spend much time in practice on it but when it happens (to me), it was a little frustrating at first especially when we beat the team in pool play and then they pull out a zone in the semi's or finals. But I learned that if were here trying to create problem solver's, its the perfect opportunity to learn on the fly through in-game adjustments. We were down 6-8 points most of the game after we beat them by 12 the first time. In the last 4 minutes of the game they figured it out and we won by 10. In your case, Im not quite sure how frustrated Ids be If it happened on the last play.
Valuing corners
My team is currently having a hard time with “standing in the corner”. Curious on how you guys have got players to buy into spacing.

Haha. Not sure how many times I've yelled hold the corner. But as mentioned by Micah, this does give an opportunity to teach reads (penetration reaction) rather running around(usually directly toward the ball at that age) allowing 1 to guard 2.
