Looking to make custom tie bar/cufflinks set
There is a project I've been wanting wanting to do for some time, but I haven't had the time or money to do it. In Oct 2016, My father (Vietnam-era USMC) died of lung cancer (attributed to agent orange). He was buried with full honors. I requested to keep the spent casings from the rifle salute. I graduated law school Cum Laude this May from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. In three days, I will take the Texas bar exam. As much of my new career will involve wearing suits, I would like to have a set of custom Tie bar/cufflinks made from the spent casings. Is anyone familiar with a reputable person or company that could do this? Thank you. - George

I'm not having much luck with this project. I've reached out to 20 companies and so far only 1 responded, but couldn't do the project.

GOOD NEWS. I found a guy. https://firelinejewelers.com/ After several long phone calls geeking out about materials science, I sent off the saved brass. I have a high level of confidence. I have 15 rounds of 30/06. My plan is to build two sets of tie bar/cufflinks. Set 1: Formal Dress set: Polished dome with flat-beveled edge. Set 2: Dress/memorial set: Similar style as formal dress, but the cufflink button is engraved (laser or otherwise...TBD) with the image here. This was my father's only tattoo and commemorated a Danger Close air strike he called in to protect his surrounded troops from being overrun. F4s dropped a ring of napalm around the Forces until they could be evacuated by helicopter. (Still looking for the specific documentation of this particular event) There is also enough to make two custom necklace pendants in the style of the cufflink buttons. I'm planning on incorporating a simple inverted "V" Similar to the spartan shield, but also an echo of the family last initial. Wife wants to get me a graduation gift
In recognition of my graduation from law school, my wife wants to get me a nice watch....specifically a Rolex. (Money is not a challenge for her). She wisely asked for my input on such an extravagant gift. I have a Submariner (gift from my father), so I'm thinking a nice dress watch like a date just and I'm not opposed to getting preowned. I'm not super familiar with the Rolex options particularly those from the past. I know I do NOT want yellow gold or any gemstones. I'm curious what models you suggest. Any models to avoid?

6 years in the making: Graduating Law School
Today ended a chapter of my life i started 6 years ago when I signed up to take the LSAT. (It ended up bring the first ever LSAT to be administered remotely due to COVID restrictions). Yesterday I was hooded by one of my favorite professors and today I officially graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While it may not have been fully proper, I left the top few inches of my regalia open showing my tie. The burgundy Oscar de la Renta tie belonged to my father who passed away from lung cancer in Oct 2016. Wearing it through graduation I felt honored his memory and that he would have been proud. I am thus far the first member of my immediate family with a bachelor's degree, and now the first with a professional degree. I was thankful to have the support of my loving wife, two daughters and In-laws throughout this journey who have been motivation and inspiration for one of the longest-path goals of my life. In 87 days, I will take the Texas Bar exam and start the next phase of my life.
