START HERE: Stay Booked Out For Weeks With Profitable Jobs
Welcome to OWNR OPS 🤝 If you own a land clearing or forestry business and you want to stay booked out weeks in advance with profitable jobs using simple systems, not shiny objects, you’re in the right place. This group and trainings are built around my simple operating system - Revamp your pricing so you generate profit on every job - Make the phone ring consistently with a simple 3‑Step Lead Engine - Track a simple weekly scorecard so you know if you’re winning or losing and exactly what to fix next I use this same playbook in my own $1.4M land clearing / forestry business and it’s what guys like Colby used to go from roughly $400k to $850k while staying 4–8 weeks booked out. Step 1 – Introduce yourself (do this now) Comment below with: - Your name - Where you’re based - What kind of work you do now (land clearing, forestry, fire mitigation, etc.) - How many weeks you’re currently booked out - Use the photo template I posted Step 2 – Unlock the Free Kickstarter Training Go to the Classroom tab and follow the steps to unlock the “Free Kickstarter Training" Video series module In it, you’ll learn how you can copy the simple operating system behind my 7 figure business: - Revamp your pricing so every crew‑day makes profit - Build a 3‑Step Lead Engine (how to make the phone ring) - Use a weekly scorecard to see if you’re winning or losing and what to fix next week Watch these lessons this week so the livestreams & posts inside here actually click. Step 3 – Book Your OPS Onboarding Call If you want my eyes on your numbers and a clear plan to stay booked out weeks in advance with profitable jobs, book an OPS Onboarding call here: 👉 [Book Onboarding Call] On that call we’ll: - Look at your current revenue, backlog, and weeks booked out - Find the biggest bottleneck in your business - See if you’re a fit for OPS Training, my weekly training program for land clearing and forestry owners

My name is Elijah Ott Location: Raleigh/Durham NC Trying to do some market research to see if this area is over saturated with land clearing/forestry mulching businesses. Start up/research Would like to make enough to replace my full time income within the first year. What is stopping me: I know there are other businesses around here and the area seems to be saturated a bit and I am concerned there might not be enough business to go around.....

@Richard Custer Hey Richard!! I am in Johnston County NC not extremely far from Goldsboro!! What are you opinions on the competition in the area as a whole? I see a bunch of companies in and around the Raleigh/Durham. This has been whats kept me from diving head first into the land clearing/forestry mulching business I want to start. Any input or insight into this area would be awesome!!
CDL
I am confused about class A CDL's. I see several options ranging from 8 weeks to something called fast track. Some research says I dont need to take every test, like bus driving, etc. Just looking for some advice from experience as it is so easy to get ripped off and pay for more than I need.

@Billy Malady Thanks for all the info!! -What all does the DOT physical include? -I would love a copy of the of your practice test. Will the test be the same across the country or does it vary state to state? I am in NC. -Unfortunately, I do not have a truck or anything yet. Are there places that you can take the test using onsite equipment or is having your own set up typically the norm? -I honestly need to look into all the little details of this for the state of NC but your info here is great!! Appreciate it!!
Heat soaking
Hey guys! Long time no talk. So I’ve been pretty fortunate the last two months as far as jobs/work booked. I’ve completed around 50k worth of work in the last two months, my goal at the beginning was 15k a month so this is outstanding! But I’ve got a problem. I’m running a Bobcat T770 with a ShearX 61” mulching head. I’ve NEVER had any heat soaking issues, but we’ve also been fortunate to not have 90° weather. Except this week. I was in the middle of a job yesterday and the machine threw “High engine compartment heat” code 3 different times shutting me down each time. I religiously clean the cooling packs every morning, clean the screens and all multiple times a day. I rinse out the rads every weekend and all. It’s not a buildup issue. I contacted my dealer (who’s been a nightmare since the start, will not purchase anything from them again) and I’ve contacted the guy I bought the mulcher from. He’s an experienced mulching head dealer with 2 machines of his own. Dealer didn’t say much, mulching head guy said to get rooftop cooler. My question is, do any of you have a Roof Top cooler and how much do you think it actually helps? Like I said, I’ve never had this problem yet with my T770 but I believe the Hydro system is heat soaking the engine compartment in this hot weather mixed with the heat the mulcher creates. A rooftop cooler is roughly $6,600 so I’m asking for real world results and opinions from people that may have experienced this. Thanks!

I havent bought a machine or gotten started yet but I always wonder if I will have overheating issues since I would be operating in NC where the summers are super hot and humid. Any suggestions?
Pipeline too full? (looking for opinions)
So this season is going gang busters. I now have over $100k of jobs on the books and my schedule is full almost to the end of June. Today I did another 10 estimate appointments, have another 10 next Friday, another 6 the Friday after that and another 10 leads I'm still chasing down and more coming in each day! For all of today's estimates I had to tell them I was booking new jobs in June. I booked 8 of those jobs with the other 2 being strong maybes. When I told each of them that my first available dates were in June they were all a little shocked but were already sold on the work so it wasn't a deal killer. Here's my dilemma; when I do next week's estimates I'll be telling some of them that I'm booking new jobs in *JULY* which is 3+ months away. In the past I've observed that jobs booked out too far are subject to more cancellations when the time gets closer to the job date. I'm considering pausing my ads for a bit (or maybe reducing the daily spend from $50 down to $10 or something?) So, has anyone else run into this problem? Am I crazy to think about pausing/slowing the ads down for 4-6 weeks? Any other suggestions/opinions? Before you suggest it, I'm just not at a place where I feel like I could or even want to find/train/equip other employees. Being the boss that just drives ads & estimates is a future goal but not yet.

Wow this is amazing!!! Sounds like the perfect time to get another crew together or at least a machine and another operator!! Great job!! I hope to be in this same position at some point!
New Guy Here – Looking to Learn from the Pros
Hey everyone! My name is Hunter, and my business partner and I are in the process of launching A&S Land Co. based in the Texas Hill Country, serving the surrounding area and South Texas. By day, I work in enterprise IT sales, and over the last several years I've also gained hands-on experience operating and working around skid steers and equipment on my family's farm. We're starting this business because we enjoy helping landowners improve their properties, with an initial focus on forestry mulching, cedar removal, pad site preparation, and ranch and land development. For now, we'll be operating on afternoons and weekends while I continue my IT career, which provides the stability to reinvest in the business and grow it the right way. We currently have access to family equipment, but we're evaluating whether to rent initially or purchase new equipment as cash flow grows. I'm joining this group to learn from those who have already built successful businesses—my goal is to soak up as much knowledge as possible, avoid rookie mistakes, and land our first job within the next 45–90 days. I appreciate any advice on equipment, pricing, estimating, marketing, or anything else you wish you had known when you were getting started. Looking forward to learning from everyone!

I am interested in starting a mulching business in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. I am in the market research stage to see if this area is worth it
