Recording Vocals
After a few questionable gear decisions, I now own a Sennheiser E965, Rode NT1-A, and AKG C3000, and I’m overthinking which one to use for vocal recording. Which mic will actually make my recorded vocals sound great instead of exposing all my bad habits? What are the key sound differences between them? Or take a vote which one I should use 😊

@Rafael Tobola Thanks Rafael, I was testing mics I already own but I will have a look for the NT1 I believe a friend of min has one in his possession. After the room treatment I notices that the vocals hugely improved so that was the first step.

@William Yung Thanks William, I appreciate your feedback. Yet another thing to try out... the reverb... I noticed a huge improvement after the room treatment. The voice is now without the "high tones" from the room itself. I do not know the AKG Perception 820 mic but will look it up.
Tonalic by Celemony
Has anyone given Tonalic a try? Looks interesting.

I received the simple version via Melodyne, if you are a melodyne user you get a stripped down version of Tonalic. My first attempt was not really very successful, maybe it is because I am a guitarist and all I got was the guitar part of Tonalic. I tried a couple of songs to add a guitar with Tonalic but I found sometimes that the choice of chords was at the least questionable. But be aware this could be a knowledge problem from my site since I only installed it a few days ago. πŸ˜… The sound quality is good though there are some nice acoustic guitars and also the picked electric guitars sound very professional. Im just curious that if we all start using this if all guitar patterns will be the same or that there will be regular updates. If you are not a guitarist I can imagine this can help you but maybe you can ask a friend (or maybe this forum) to play the guitar part for you.🀟 One other thing is the subscription... I don't like it.. I rather pay for software... not rent it ..
How do you start writing or recording a new song?
Hi everyone. Sometimes it can be difficult to finish a song, so I wanted to ask how you usually start recording one. 1. Do you begin with a simple piano arrangement, record the best vocal takes you can, and then build the instrumental arrangement around them? 2. Do you write and arrange the entire song first, and only then record the vocals? 3. Do you start by recording the elements that matter most and define the vibe of the song, and then add other elements that give it color? What is your personal workflow?

Hi Turcan, I think it all depends on what your main instrument is you are playing/writing with. I normally start with a guitar or piano idea, let's say a verse and a chorus. In the "old" days I would only record it when the whole idea was finished but nowadays I record it any idea I have. What I then do is a bit of copy and pasting until the structure of the song is finished with e.g. a bridge added and an end. nest I do is record the drums and the bass and then I re-record the guitar to play the entire song . If needed I add piano ideas or strings or 2nd guitar etc. Only then I record the vocals, the lead vocals and back vocals. Then it is just a matter of listening to the song and decide if anything else is needed. To be honest the most time I do spend is on getting the lyrics right and fit in the song structure πŸ˜‚ Main thing I guess is that you do not trough away anything capture the ideas and if you get stuck leave it and continue with a different song and come back rot it later. 🀟

@Turcan Sorin I sometimes re-record the guitar after recording the vocals, it could indeed be that you have a great guitar sound in a song but it just does not fit the vocals or total feel you have for a song. I use the Kemper profiler a lot, just record "dull" guitar sound the re-route trough the Kemper to find the fitting sound.

I released two versions of this song and unfortunately I can release I think a 2026 version with what is going on in the world today! πŸ˜” https://open.spotify.com/album/5JIsd7moIurAqYfL6SsePC?si=FUaHt6KeSN6V0C4U5aP41Q https://open.spotify.com/track/46GsRG4mzHaoNS1YVaJNDn?si=3bf620fd0d304542
Who's got music on Spotify? Drop your links here!
Who's already releasing music on Spotify (or other DSPs)? Drop your links, I want to hear where everyone is at sonically right now. Also, let's start leveraging this circle of like-minded producers and musicians!I love finding new music, and the more stuff you can tell the algorithm you like, the more good stuff Spotify recommends- I want to know what y'all are making. My personal playlists need new sounds. I'm a fan of lots of electronic music, rock, metal, pop, and hip hop/rap personally, so if you make any of this, I wanna hear it! Pro tip- 30 seconds counts as a stream. Spotify likes when people "like" a song or save a song to your playlist. These are positive signals, so if you're vibing you know what to do. Skips, or less-than-30-second plays are negative signals to the platform, so let's all try not to do give Spotify negative signals, even if you're not into the music people are sharing.

All input is welcome since I am currently in the process of recording a new album and I am so glad I found this community, it really inspires me to improve my recording and mastering skills πŸ‘Œ
