We Podcasters Need Operations Managers (vs only VAs)
What's your take in this YAP family? As you read it note, everyone's at different levels as Hala talks about - 3 different levels so read this noting the level you're on and season you're in. So I’ve hired VA’s or “off shore staff” for years, mainly from Upwork. These professionals work well, but I know I needed something else. So I hired a chief of staff or operations manager. She happens to be US based. Her rate is not $10 an hour or etc, but more like $50 or more per hour. Yes, it’s an investment and worth every penny. A virtual assistant by nature of their rate and often that English (or the mother tongue of your country) might not be their primary language of comfort. Nor their experience in business operations (the most important thing) - is often a hinderance. They don’t have that experience. Doing “tasks” is great. Editing video, inputting records, prompting AI, emailing 100 clients, etc ,etc However, a “Chief of Staff” or “Operations Manager” has the maturity and experience to not just do “tasks” but understand the business goals, the entrepreneur’s needs and create their own tasks that get projects done, with minimal supervision or none at all. A good operations manager is on YOUR back about getting things done. They know the vision and mission of the company and are able to “lock in” with you to move projects forward week to week. In fact they can manage you VAs. Yes hire virtual assistants* but also hire a great operations manager or chief of staff. *Side note - give your VA’s titles - like “Video editor”, “Blogger”, “Customer service manager” etc.

@Ramon Ray , the platform you mentioned is one I used for several years -even before its renaming a few years ago. I have had very positive experiences with hires as well as problematic ones. Podcasters can have VAs who perform tasks that include operations. For example, a VA may be -Social Media Assistant, Audio/Video Producer. Job description, rate per hour, etc should be adjusted according to what is needed by the podcaster. Like much of entrepreneurship, one size doesn't fit all. In my view, to make hiring of VAs work for podcasters, here are a few points to consider: 1) Have a clear Job Description. 2) Create a short-list of freelance candidates to interview. 3) ALWAYS interview before making an offer to VA, or any other position. 4) Cancel a contract if necessary. 5) Be willing to readvertise when none of those interviewed seem suitable for the role you're hiring for. 6) Hold regular meetings with VA -weekly or fortnightly Agree with @Hala Taha about the wealth of talent and loyalty you could find. At present, only one regular VA for social media. Worked with for over 2 years and weekly hours are reduced when fewer tasks or focus change.

✅'Fell into entrepreneurship -over 20 years ago!😊 Started with working on projects as a consultant/Subject matter expert. Now it's very much about podcasting and tourism/hospitality. ✅Podcasting is at the heart of the creator business I'm building. This year, I am looking to connect with others who want to join me in building a network of 'Hidden Gems Podcasters' in cities and towns around the world. It is building on the Sheffield's Hidden Gems podcast I launched a few years ago. ✅Biggest challenge is finding the 'right people' who are ready to grow their brand, connections and widen their reach through hosting a 'hidden gems' podcast for their city or town.
@Ramon Ray, thanks for sharing. Very impressive start and growth of your media/creative business!🙏 What types/ scale of entrepreneurs are your brands looking to reach?

Quick note + I’d love your honest input 👇
First — I’m really grateful for this group. Seeing over 100 creators in here already tells me we’re onto something valuable. I want to be very intentional about what we build next. There are a few different ways I can deliver value here — and instead of guessing, I want to hear directly from you. So I’d love your honest take: • When it comes to learning, do you personally prefer in-depth, structured courses or shorter standalone live sessions — and why? • What kind of learning format realistically fits into your life right now? • When it comes to learning how to grow and monetize your creator-led business, what level of investment feels reasonable to you? • If you had to choose, would you prefer: – a monthly membership with live, topical webinars throughout the month (with replays), or – a structured masterclass that takes you through everything A–Z? Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be sharing more live value in here and testing a few formats. Your feedback will directly shape what this turns into. Appreciate you being early and helping me build this the right way 🤍
@Hala Taha, thank you for asking the question ahead of offering the solution. My preference would be for a series of shorter sessions over a few weeks, maybe 4 or 5. That way, I can apply the learning/tips, move to the next step and also have the benefit of being able to get feedback or ask questions. Over the years, I have done both the memberships, masterclasses and everything else in between. My experience with memberships is after a few months, they are not worth either the time or money invested. Replays are convenient, but in membership groups, one can be busy with "catchups", instead of implementing and moving forward.
