Building out your woodshop?
What do you consider your essential machinery in your shop? Why? I have a 24 x10 shop space. I own a Craftsman model 113 table saw, Kobalt 10" miter saw, an older model 8" Spruger joiner (needing work), a central machinery, variable speed drill press, a Delta bench top band saw 3.5" throat ( which doesn't cut much more than soft woods , a central machinery scroll saw "16 throat, Skil router with an inefficient, homemade router table. I DO NOT have a planner, and I feel like a Band saw upgrade in an important next step to advance my capabilities in project making. Appreciate any thoughts you're willing to share.

@Jay Neal hey Jay, I do toys for grandkids Small furniture, picture frames, holiday crafts. All novice level. I do like working with repurposed wood sometimes. I’m feeling closer to risking doing some hardwood projects. I usually download plans to work from.

Luc, Thanks for sharing your shop set up. Since post my question I been receiving so much thought provoking feedback. My work space lacks climate control as well as no dedicated dust collection beyond a small shop vac. I look forward to seeing your shop photos.
Be Careful Out There
Woodworkers talk all the time about the risk of table saw injuries. I had one of those back in the 1980s. Fortunately, it didn't cost me a finger. Neither did this one; but this one didn't come from a table saw. It came from a chisel... a really sharp chisel. I was paring the end of a dowel rod and the chisel slipped. Unfortunately, my left hand was in the line of fire, even though I thought it was clear. The chisel went in about 3/8, making a very clean cut. It missed the bone, but nicked an artery, so there was a lot more blood than you'd expect. Had to get sewn back together. We've got to stay aware of what we're doing, every minute we have tools in our hands. They can all hurt us; just ask someone who's hit their thumb with a hammer. Fortunately, this didn't end up being all that serious and I'll get the stitches out in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, I'll still be woodworking, albeit a bit more carefully.

I try to run every cut I make through in my mind before ever squeezing a trigger, especially since I'm already a warfrin user for life. Lets build!
