Results from A/B test
Hi all, I shared this on Twitter and thought you might like it. Basically, I ran some split tests and discovered that: - More fields = fewer conversions. Tons of marketers were pushing for more “personalized” emails. So, I ran an A/B test to compare conversion rates. I tested 2 signup form versions: - A. 1 field (email only) - B. 2 fields (name + email) Collecting ONLY an email WINNER: A which resulted in ~136% more conversions. (enlarge pic to see stats)

@Doug Dennison Whoops, I corrected that. haha It's A. One field is the winner so that's what I've kept on both my sites. I'm not sure if I'm an outlier here, but I have a feeling that people just don't care about personalization since they know it's a bulk email. 🤷‍♂️
Anyone using Quizzes for Lead Generation?
I am a big fan of quizzes. We use them on our website mainly as a personal product finder. But there are many more applications, depending on your content type: -What's your perfect coffee bean? -What should be your next career move? -What kind of cyclist are you? -What sights should you visit in London? Quizzes are engaging and the best thing is that you can ask people for their email address at the end. We don't force them to, so we always offer a Skip button as it can be very annoying to some people. My favorite quiz makers are: -Involve.me -Interact -Thrive (If you are keen to learn more, we discuss them in detail in our latest post on EmailTooltester). What's your experience with quizzes, both as a user and email marketer?

I've used surveys and it works! 📈
My 'get reply' hack
Ever noticed how top newsletter pros like Matt Gray and James Clear make sure their emails land in your primary inbox, not promotions? 🎯 Here’s the secret: they use two simple hacks. - First, they ask you to drag their email to your primary inbox (cos Gmail’s filters can be a pain). - Second, they get you to reply. Yep, just hit reply, say “hi,” and boom—you’re on their approved list. Some even sweeten the deal. Katelyn Bourgoin, for example, sends her book when you reply. Clever, right? I’ve set this up too. When someone replies to my welcome email, they get my playbook instantly—thanks to a sneaky Gmail filter. Give it a go and boost your inbox placement... Let me know how you get on 😉

Feedback pls 🏆
Just dropped the new 2X EMAILS website, I'd love your feedback... https://2xemails.com Does it all make sense? Does it sell the benefits? Thank you! ❤️

Site looks way better. I DM'd some ideas, but overall direction is looking good. One thing that seems hard for most people to articulate is the balance between something being an "investment" vs. just a purchase. This is clearly a bigger business investment, but I would equate it to a piece of equipment (like a tractor for a farm). It'll start earning back the purchase price soon. :)
I'm automating my newsletter 💌
Right, let’s talk newsletters. Here’s the thing: I’m merging my newsletter with my welcome series. Why? Cos I’m tired of people missing great emails or spending ages batch-creating content. Here’s the plan: – When someone signs up, they’ll get a welcome sequence: a bit about me, best articles, LinkedIn connection, the works. – Then, they’ll flow seamlessly into my weekly newsletter, every Tuesday, like clockwork. – Bonus? No one misses out, ever. I’m aiming for a year’s worth of content—60 emails in total. Once it’s done, my email game will run on autopilot. Effortless. Oh, and I’ve moved to Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Free for up to 10k subscribers and perfect for this setup. Why wouldn’t you? What do you think? Game-changer or just extra faff? Drop me a comment! 🚀

Automated is the way to go. You can always send person ones along the way, but the more you automate, the more you can focus on marketing.
