Pages in Bloom – A Month of May Art Journaling Challenge
Welcome to Pages in Bloom — a month of floral art journaling during May using old magazines, scrap paper, book pages, packaging, tissue paper, and any bits you have on hand. This challenge is about enjoying the creative process and making flower-themed pages in a way that works for you. There is no pressure to complete every day or use every prompt. The prompts are simply there for inspiration. Your goal is to create as many pages as feels convenient and enjoyable for your own schedule, choosing whichever prompts spark your interest. Some may make one page all month, some may make ten, and some may create every day — all are welcome. Perfect for Beginners No drawing skills needed No fancy supplies required. Just glue, scissors, paper, and a willingness to play. What You’ll Need: Old magazines Scrap paper Glue stick or other glue medium Scissors Journal, sketchbook, or loose paper Optional: markers, stamps, paint, stickers, washi tape Prompt Ideas for Inspiration Day 1: One Big Bloom – Create a page with one oversized flower Day 2: Petal Parade – Fill the page with flower petals only. Day 3: Garden Colors – Use only pink, yellow, and green scraps. Day 4: Tiny Bouquet – Make a small bouquet in the center of the page. Day 5: Wildflowers – Create a loose and free wildflower page. Day 6: Floral Border – Decorate the edges with flowers. Day 7: Flower Market – Cut flowers from magazines like a market display. Day 8: Blue Bloom – Make a floral page using shades of blue. Day 9: Vase of Flowers – Create flowers arranged in a vase or jar. Day 10: Spring Garden – Fill the page with blooms and greenery. Day 11: Daisy Day – Use daisies or daisy-like flowers.

@Caroline Walmsley Thank you, Caroline! I appreciate your encouragement and support and hope that others will read your kind words and good advice and dive right in as well. I wanted to take it down to a basic level so I can build these pages amd techniques as we move thru the month. Good times!

The Box, The Bag, The Pile: A New Way to Begin
So many makers quietly believe this: “I’ll create when I have more space.”I’ll start when I get organized.”I just need to find everything first.” I used to believe that too. Then life handed me a different season. For two years, I've been extremely immobile, and the kind of sewing setup I imagined wasn’t possible. No spreading out. No digging through every bin. No perfect little creative corner waiting for me. So I had to find another way. I began reaching for whatever was closest—one bag, one box, one basket, one little pile of scraps and notions. That was enough. I stopped asking, “What do I want to make?” and started asking, “What is it possible to make from what’s in front of me?” And honestly? It changed everything. It made creating feel lighter. More playful. Less pressured. More like discovery than performance. That’s something I want for this Cozy Makers Club, too. You do not need a magazine-worthy craft room. You do not need matching bins and labeled drawers. You do not need to have it all figured out before you begin. Sometimes all you need is what’s within reach… and permission to play. So if your space is tiny, cluttered, shared, or far from perfect—you still belong here. Your creativity can bloom right in the middle of the beautiful mess.

Oh, how I can relate. My creative space is literally in my bathroom. Yep. Right "there". But I am so thankful for it. Even after several purges, reorganizations (and maybe a few tears), I am overwhelmed by the multi textured abundance that the Lord has seen fit to provide for this old girl living remotely on a mountain. Is my space perfect? No. Do I get interrupted by others' need for "privacy"? Yep. But I choose to love this gift. It's mine; my crazy little place of creative misadventures and bold redemption.
