Is transport a right.
So after the fire next to Glasgow Central Station I mentioned last week the station has been closed along with every line running to the Southside of Glasgow. It's the busiest station in Scotland with more than 80,000 passengers daily yet not a single extra bus or replacement service has been running. As you can imagine the buses and roads have been chaos. Which got me thinking. Is transport a right? Do governments have a duty to provide public transport and an alternative when things go wrong? Vote in the poll and explain why in the comments

Hmm tricky one Simon. I think Health care should be a right. And food and having a roof over our heads, but transport? I guess it depends on which country you are in and if there are other more important things governments should be doing with our taxes before focusing on transport. Although transport is pretty damn important too right? I think your poll needs a middle option for "it depends" 🤣 In your specific scenario. I'd say absolutely, if a station is closed along with train lines, the government should absolutely be putting replacement services in place. In Australia it would just happen, in South Africa, you can forget it.
Where is the castle?
I went to visit a castle the other day. Here are some Scots - and a few English ones I used to describe it's location. Do you know or can you guess what they mean Nae far fae ma maw's hoose Up the road a wee bit Just alang the way Roon the corner Just ower the way A stone's throw In spitting distance On my doorstep

wow a castle right in the centre of town? For some reason I assumed all castles would be out somewhere all on their own where you had to drive to get to them. When I lived in London and I'd go to visit family in North Wales, in Cefn Mawr, we used to drive out to visit the ruins of a castle nearby which I LOVED exploring and picturing the people who used to live there. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it or where it was exactly, but I guess it cemented the image for me that castles are all "over there on their own somewhere" ha ha

@Simon Nelson gosh I'm really showing my ignorance when it comes to history hey (History was never my favourite subject in school, I blame my teacher for that one 😂) That is fascinating, and very very cool. Can you tell me more? Like, how much would it have cost to build yourself a little castle like that in the middle of town in today's money, and would it have been bloody freezing inside ALL the time? And how much would it have cost to maintain? I see it's now owned by the state and managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Does that mean the owners would have just cut and run when it got too expensive to maintain?

@Jay Taylor That is so true!! I've been living in Australia for 14 years now and I haven't travelled anywhere yet!! What have you liked most about Australia so far?

@Jay Taylor ooh Tasmania is amazing. Well it looks it, haven't seen it in person yet lol. For a while I actually considered moving there from Sydney until I realised how much colder it is. Now I'm eyeing out New Zealand, cooler weather be damned, as I love the fact that it doesn't have a single snake... When I first arrived here, I read Bill Brysons book Down Under which was so informative and so funny. Makes me feel like I have travelled the continent a little having lived vicariously through him. I have been to Adelaide, just for the day for a client meeting, and I didn't love it. But to be fair I only saw the bit from the airport to the client and back again... Enjoy your travels, sounds like you are having an amazing time!!
