Is transport a right.
So after the fire next to Glasgow Central Station I mentioned last week the station has been closed along with every line running to the Southside of Glasgow. It's the busiest station in Scotland with more than 80,000 passengers daily yet not a single extra bus or replacement service has been running. As you can imagine the buses and roads have been chaos. Which got me thinking. Is transport a right? Do governments have a duty to provide public transport and an alternative when things go wrong? Vote in the poll and explain why in the comments

Where is the castle?
I went to visit a castle the other day. Here are some Scots - and a few English ones I used to describe it's location. Do you know or can you guess what they mean Nae far fae ma maw's hoose Up the road a wee bit Just alang the way Roon the corner Just ower the way A stone's throw In spitting distance On my doorstep

@Debbie Zsolnai It depends on the purpose of the castle really. This one was the 16th century equivalent of a superyacht basically a bit of bling to say look how rich and powerful I am. It wasn't for defence at all Scotland was a lot safer by then so it was really just for showing off
Restoring History
A huge fire destroyed one of Glasgow's historic buildings this weekend. Now a big debate has started: what should replace it? Some people say historic buildings are beautiful but hard and expensive to convert to modern standards. They can be energy-inefficient and difficult to make accessible. Others argue modern buildings are boring and soulless compared to the bold architecture of the industrial era. So what do you think—protect historic character or build modern and sustainable? Let me know in the comments.

@Joey Knight me too but I am even more interested in when the station is going to open!!! It's the busiest station in Scotland and they haven't laid on any alternative transport the buses and roads are just chaos. Luckily I work from home!!!!

@Jay Taylor Yes definitely agree. I think there is some great new architecture but all to often they go for the boring boxes because its cheap and efficient

I'll go first. So one of my followers on Rednote in China asked me to make a post about the Ulster Scots and to be honest it's not something I am an expert on so I'm going to have to do some research to flesh out the knowledge I have so far. In the UK we learn almost nothing about our Empire even though it has had and continues to have such a profound impact on the world. So I am looking forward to what I'll learn. And I'll post on here when it's finished.

@Jay Taylor mmm not sure there are any hidden gems nowadays. But where I grew up in the South West of Scotland - in Dumfries and Galloway is a bit quieter. It's not quite as majestic as the Highlands so people often miss it. Also the north of Ireland is well worth a visit too and it definitely less touristy than many other places.
