Showing Up
Hey Life School, what's one way we can show up today? What does that look like for you and how can you prioritize that to make your day just a little brighter? We want to create a ripple effect of blessings. If we can make a difference just by looking someone in the eyes with a smile, we can create a chain reaction beyond our farthest reach. It all starts with one small deed or conscious action to show up. So how will you today? Would love to see your response and encouragement for our community!

Love this question Casey. For me something that comes to mind when attempting to show up each day is prioritizing what truly matters in life. Sometimes that means saying no to things, sometimes that means showing up for someone even when you’re tired and feeling burnt out. Sometimes that means you’ll miss out on opportunities for your priorities. Sometimes it’s doing something that makes sense for you even when others don’t get it. Whatever way it looks for you individually, I believe an important part in this fast paced world is…doing less so you can do more of/for what matters. Thoughts?
What do you guys think is the BIGGEST struggle Gen Z faces nowadays?
Nowadays, folks, especially Gen Z, face a lot of struggles -- lonliness, lack of sense of purpose, being too sedantary, and the list goes on. We as high performers are here to not only be vulnerable and grow ourselves but to also uplift the beautiful folks around us to do the same! Comment below what you think is the biggest opportunity for growth for Gen Z! P.S. In this community -- the more detailed the more awesome! - Govind

Great list from @Warren Gibbons, you hit the nail on the head with this. I often hear others in my age group struggle with many of these, and I myself have at different times. I especially have concerns about the future. I often wonder how people of my generation will make sense of this world and carve paths for ourselves. I carry a lot of hope, and always believe things work out in the end, but the journey can be hard! One more id like to add to the list: -Attention limits: There is an abundance of information and entities out in the world now competing for our attention, the internet has pushed this to the max. I think Gen Z particularly needs to pay attention (Pun intended) to where we decide to give out attention and focus.

@Warren Gibbons Same feelings Warren. Thank you for sharing your story! Your efforts pushing through grief and continuing to move forward while honoring Nolen and what you and your wife have built was very moving.
Great call today! Glad I showed up.
Thank you to @Govind Nadathur and @Casey Kaufman for today's call. Love getting to hear how you do your high performance call with each other and how it works for you both. Also love how you do a nightly (daily) recap to share strengths & struggles - brilliant. @Mark Matthews has this hoodie I love that says "Honor the Struggle". So - In that vibe I'll share a struggle I've been working on (maybe others will do the same). My old default is staying up late (night owl) - and yet I've realized that I love getting up early (5 or 6am). When I do get up early, I have the best days. It's easier to get my morning routine in (Growth Day Journal + get outside and move). But...of course it's hard to get up early when I'd go to bed late (1 or 2am). It's an old/bad habit that doesn't serve me (like I don't want the day to end), even though my body is sending me all the cues that it's ready for sleep. The hack I've figured out...is to follow my wife to bed (usually 10pm) and then read (lights out no later than 11pm). Holy cow what a difference it makes (not just for me but also for my connection with my wife - awesome high quality time together). It also leads to even more awesome high quality conversations & connection in the mornings (those have been a gamechanger for our marriage). The trick for me is the same universal/1st principal of sticking to routines/rituals/inputs that work with consistency. I'm making progress (not perfect) and not judging myself when I miss. I just get back to what works (follow my wife to bed - so simple). Love the community @Mark Matthews & @Govind Nadathur are building here (amazing). Seth Godin defines culture (community) as 'people like us do things like this'. Who wants to share next? What are some struggles you're dealing with? P.S. Being vulnerable is a leadership quality I choose to embody.

Warren, it was great to meet you and experience this talk from @Govind Nadathur and @Casey Kaufman together. Thanks for sharing one of your struggles, as we all know, it can be a difficult thing to do. Your method to achieve your goal of going to bed early (following your wife to bed) remined me of a book I recently read so I thought I would share. In Atomic Habits, by James Clear, James touches on a multi-level approach to create a good habit, or getting rid of a bad habit. One of these principals is "Make it Easy", or for a bad habit, "Make it Difficult." That's exactly what you did Warren, you found a way to make your goal easy, by engineering your sought after habit around an easily achievable action of following your wife to bed. Great stuff. Finally Warren, you threw out a challenge and I'll bite. My recent struggle that I've been dealing with has been letting go of a long held nicotine habit. It's not pretty, but that's reality. I'm very proud to say I quit at the beginning of January this year. It has been a serious struggle, but I am passionate in the results and willing to "Honor the Struggle," for a healthier future. @Mark Matthews @Govind Nadathur Looking forward to being apart of this developing community.

@Warren Gibbons Proximity is key Warren. When I avoid cues and make sure the habit is not in the house then it's much more difficult to do something. Also I started chewing a lot of gum haha! Great question Warren.

My name is Deacon Humbert, I am located in Columbus Ohio, a student at The Ohio State University. I think I could use a reset in my networks/connections and deep real relationships. In some sense I got this reset by moving cities, now it’s time to build. I want to build life changing relationships, collaborate with others and create strong social and professional relationships and partnerships that’ll have an impact far wider than the relationships built. I’d like to develop skills to better open up and approach others with curiosity and appreciation.
